In this review of Muskie Pike, I’m going to show you both the good and the bad. After all, what’s a review without some honesty, right? First, I have to tell you upfront that Muskie Pike is my favorite choice. Sure, there’s other products in the same class, but frankly, none of them as good (in terms of quality). I do have to say this though. some other products may be better, but based on quality and price, Muskie Pike is the clear winner.

If your not using a down rigger, then you may not have any luck catching any trout. In the lake I fish, the trout are already sitting around 40-60′ depth mark and with out a down rigger it would be a bit of a challenge to get down there.

you would need a massive tankremember a muskie can grow upwards of 6 feet so probably 500 gallon tank would be fineyou could could make an inground pool for it.growing relative to the tank as said before basically means that the fish stops growing but this disrupts some of the organs thus killing the fishthere are many other things like chain pickeral that you could put in that would be fine in a large tank id suggest no smaller than 200 gallons still though.

  3. pike fisherman Says:

The best ice fishing bait I ever came across for multi species is the rapala jigging rap. I would recommend though for pike, bass, muskie one of the bigger sizes and for pan fish a smaller size. If you are fishing in deep water use shinny or florescent colors while in shallow use any color you fell like. And don’t forget to putt a minnow or wax worm on it for bait. If you are just going out after pike and muskie use a “tip up” with a sucker minnow or a regular minnow for bait.

l’d try their “swimmin’ ciscos”, http://store.castaicswimbait.com/Category/Swimmin%27-Ciscosthe “catch 22″, guaranteed to catch 22 bass…they don’t say how many muskies… http://store.castaicswimbait.com/Category/Catch22or some of the “rock hard” swimbaits, http://store.castaicswimbait.com/Category/Rock-Hard-Swimbaitsand according to this next article, they are knocking the pizz out of european pike: http://store.castaicswimbait.com/News/Details/9match local forage. the swimmin’ cisco matches some of your baitfish well.

I guess you could do as I did when I was researching my last Shimano reel purchase.Go to Shimano’s web site and first see if they even offer the reel you are wanting with the features you desire. Then armed with a model number you can begin your web search for one that is for sale. Then judge for yourself what is cheap and what isn’t.I would check e-bay first.Good way to get a price range.

Nathan gets my vote. The Bango Minnow is just a glorified Fluke or Senko rigged with a “wired” weedless hook instead of being Texas-rigged. And I totally agree, they are very small lures to use for Musky.Large Musky tend to want BIG dinners. The info-mercial where the guy is catching huge Pike/Musky with his Bango Minnow is a scam. (There are places in Canada where you could cut a 8″ strip out of your jeans, thread it on a hook, and catch your limit of Pike!)In other words, catching huge Northerns/Musky on a pristine lake in Canada (like they did on the info-mercial for the Banjo Minnow) isn’t very hard. The test of a quality lure is how many fish it catches in “used”, “over-fished”, waters. The Banjo Minnow catches more fishermen than fish!

  7. Doug R Says:

Muskie are rare in industrial Mass. Try heading to the Connecticut River in NH. Float down on a canoe and fish for trout, bass, salmon, carp, pike, pickerel and musky.

If you live in the US chances are no where. Although fish laws vary from state to state fish that are raised as fingerlings by the state to supply stocking are not allowed to be sold in the state. I live in PA and it is against the law to sell, breed, transport out of state any native fish or turtle dead or alive.Your best bet as the other poster said is to go and catch one. There are some supplying farms however in Georgia and a few other states that you can actually buy these fish for stocking your pond, but we are talking about poundage of fish here not just one or two.You may want to call your local fish comission. If there are any of these breeders/suppliers they should be able to tell you where you could purchase a small amount.

Muskie…they are often called the fresh water shark.

I went to a lake which I believe is called Beaver Lake in Minnesota a couple years in a row and had no trouble catching monster bass and a few good size pike. The locals all said there was good muskie fishing there, but we didn’t bother because we were doing so well without them. It’s a small lake that you have to go through a pretty narrow “channel” to get to from a much bigger lake (which also has pretty good pike fishing)A nearby lake we went to (Black Lake) was a haven for perch and panfish. We just stayed at a state park near the lake and launched our boat every day.We also had good luck in Gull Lake and Grass Lake.

  11. Josh Says:

If a fish is hungry, they will hit just about anything that crosses their path. Would worms be the “best” bait for Muskie or Pike? Probably not. You’d probably have more luck using shad imitating lures or live shad. Walleye on the other hand will hit worms pretty consistently. Hooking them on a jig head or even a spinner type of lure will be productive more times than not.

If you are willing to travel a little ways Pewaukee Lake, and Lake Nagawicka in Waukesha county both have good northern populations. I know Pewaukee has musky but I’m not sure about Nagawicka. Hwy 83 runs right between the two lakes. On the west side of the hwy is Nagawaukee county park with camping and a landing for Nagawicka. Just across the hwy is a public boat landing for Pewaukee.

  13. Injun Says:

i would and use mono and braids in 10lb to 40lb test it is the leader that you really need to worry about when fishing for pike and muskie. For smaller fish in open water I fish 10lb to 14lb mono with 24″ titanium leader! (for larger fish 14 to 20 mono)For any of these fish in heavy cover I tend to use the braids with a good leader!Yes have lost a fish here and there but I will say I get more fish on the lite line and dont lose near as many as what you think.
