I would use a 6ft-6.6 medium action rod or higher. Reel I would use any Southbend with a gear ratio of 5.2 or higher. For hooks #8 salmon egg or # 6 or lower baitholder hooks. However , youll probably need thick hooks such as the live bait ones to compensate for the weight of the larger carp.Bait, this is the the enjoyable part. Bread, corn, dough, worms, and nuts. I would chum with bread every 15min and use dough, corn, or nuts as bait. You can mix these up for your chum. Chum often and sparring , you need to give them a reason to swim to your area.As far as line if you want a challenge 8lb line. However, I stick with 14lb because these guys are usually in the 10lb+ range. Fish near structures and try to gain higher ground. These fish patrol alot and if you find those routes , ambush them boy. Good luck

Ike will screw things up and it would be silly to think it won’t. Every bottom oriented fish will move way off the coast to get away from the turbulence and turmoil the rising pounding surf will create. The schooling fish will go deep and in the back bays and harbors they flat disappear. but if there is a fish God hope that ike misses you and you are able to get out and find ‘emGood luck just the same.

I would use clear line first off. I would use seven even eight foot spinning gear and I would use a lot of weedless methods like spinner baits from the smallest for small prey to larger for bass and stripers. But mostly I would mid day use dead worm floating bait casting way upstream and allowing it to roll and float naturally by and then retrieve and repeat. I think you’re looking for only bottom fishing tackle. A medium sized tackle box with one or two trays in it and an open bottom. One box each (perhaps 25 or 50 count) hooks in sizes 1 through 3, and one box each of 1/0 through 3/0. A 1/0 hook is much larger than a size 1. A few boxes of large, medium and small split shot weights. And a dozen or so each of egg sinkers in 3/4, 1, and 2 ounce. You’ll need a good pair of pliers and some extra spools of line. That’s what the large compartment in the bottom of the tackle box is for.The easiest bait to use is night crawlers. But if you’re up to it you can make dough bait for catfish and carp. For catfish, mix one cup of flour with one pint of chicken livers and put the whole mess in a blender. Add some flour to make it firm. It makes a horrible mess in the blender, but it’s good bait. For carp, mix one cup of flour with one package of strawberry Jello. Add water and mix into a firm dough. It works great for carp. Both of those dough baits can be frozen and kept indefinitely.

He has a great selection and I’ve never had a problem with the store. I recommend it. I’m not sure about the hours, but you can call them at (508) 828-5881.

  15. Devyn Says:

There is a physical tackle (as in football and UFC) and then there is terminal tackle. They are two very different things. The shop is called a tackle shop because baits are included in the tackle spectrum. If it was called a bait shop, the thought would be that it doesn’t carry rods, reels, line, hooks, sinkers or anything else but bait, therefore driving the shop’s business down when compared to a tackle shop. Also, if I saw a gym called The Tackle Shop………….. I wouldn’t even go inside to see what it looks like.

  16. John B Says:

I’ve never had them dry out, but I wouldn’t advise just leaving them loose in your tackle box. The solvents used in some soft plastic baits can dissolve the plastic in your tackle box over time, and if you put it away for the winter with your baits loose in the trays, you may find them welded to the trays when you take it out again in the spring.
