Analysis of the Drunken Fisheman by Robert Lowell?
The Drunken Fisherman Wallowing in this bloody sty,I cast for fish that pleased my eye(Truly Jehovah's bow suspendsNo pots of gold to weight its ends);Only the blood-mouthed rainbow troutRose to my bait. They flopped aboutMy canvas creel until the mothCorrupted its unstable cloth.A calendar to tell the day;A handkerchief to wave awayThe gnats; a couch unstuffed with stormPouching a bottle in one arm;A whiskey bottle full of worms; And bedroom slacks: are these fit Wave Jig termsTo mete the worm whose molten rageBoils in the belly of old age?Once fishing was a rabbit's foot--O wind blow cold, O wind blow hot,Let suns stay in or suns step out:Life danced a jig on the sperm-whale's spout--The fisher's fluent and obsceneCatches kept his conscience clean.Children, the raging memory droolsOver the glory of past pools. Now the hot river, ebbing, haulsIts bloody waters into holes;A grain of sand inside my shoeMimics the moon that might undoMan and Creation too; remorse,Stinking, has puddled up its source; Here tantrums thrash to a whale's rage. This is the pot-hole of old age.Is there no way to cast my hookOut of this dynamited brook? The Fisher's sons must cast aboutWhen shallow waters peter out.I will catch Christ with a greased worm,And when the Prince of Darkness stalksMy bloodstream to its Stygian term . . .On water the Man-Fisher walks. I think it is about the fisherman constantly fishing for salvation and believe Jesus will save him? Does anybody have an analysis of this poem? Thanks :)

Froma believer in GOD:Fundamentalist dont like the Osteen’s b/c they have been brainwahsed that we must serve an act a certain way to believe in GOD! I study the word dilegently and i see no fault with the man.. i agree his approach is awesome. i actually had a conversation with a lady who didn’t like him b/c he was too calm… what the hell…. too calm… who said you had to rant and rave all the time..YEs sumtimes the spirit gets you all excited, but sumtimes it just teaches….His advice and words are true and he focuses more on applying the WORD of God in one;s life… i hate to say this being a saved believer, but the church is sooo messed up. pple think the craziest things, they put all these restrictions on religion and makes things harder for themselves!. Pple please the bible is not that hard and it is not diffucult. we have enuff things to debate about in the bible, why do fundies keep adding stuff that adds to the debates…. that is why the bible states that there will be some that ppl think we enter into the gates that will not and vice versa… Chrisitians please think about this.. i am a saved beleiver and i belive every word in the bible, but GOD is not pleased with the church.. is has gotten waaaay outta hand. Some christians, not all, have screwed things up tremendously and a lot of them have the worst spirits! People please focus onthe WORD and quit focusing on how to play church!!!! ok , yes i said it and i know christians may revolt, but heck they need to know what they are doing and get off their pious, tadritional throne and start studying and living as the word of GOD say… please note this does not apply to all Chrisitans! AT times i can’t even stand to go to chruch b/c of all the un-genuine spirits!

wow. honestly, that is such a beautiful, deep and meaningful poem it nearly made me cry. i understand some of it..i think, i had to read it over a couple of times and i may be wrong but i will tell you what i understood of it. something had happened to make you very upset, you were really mad and said things that weren’t true like wanting him dead, so a few hours later he decided to give you what you wanted? *i’m not sure about this part and i don’t want to sound rude if it’s wrong* but then he tried to OD?the police came and you tried to get them out and all, you were very emotional and he was upset with you and what you said to him..but you still love him, you still want him back. anyway i think that is his decision to make but you should definitely show him the poem and hope for the best. if what i said was right then you need to apologise a lot and explain yourselfi’m sorry if i didn’t get what it was about but either way good luck

I fish quite a bit for stripers in Northern California and the rig you caught the 7 pound striper on is actually a very good one. I have caught several, up to 24 pounds, fishing for perch and using the same rig.If you are looking for another rig or another way, here goes:1. Try ripping a 4 inch floating rapala with a little red in it somewhere. Rip, let it set for a second three cranks, rip let it set and repeat. The strikes you get using this method can be breath taking.2. Try a large marabou or bucktail jig in the 2oz plus range and work it as you would any other jig. Again, try sing various retrieval techniques until you find the one that works. my favorite colors are white/red or chartreuse/red.3. Use larger plastic swim baits in silver/black or root beer with a black tail.4. Last, but certainly not least. Use that same sliding sinker rig with a heavier sliding sinker and use live smelt for bait. If you use circle hooks they will hook themselves. I just use live bait hooks, don’t ask why. I wait for them to swim away in free spool. When they stop I count to three tighten the line and slam it to em! You had better hang on after that because they will be most unhappy!lolGood catching. Tell me about any big ones. Nothing beats a good fish story, well almost nothing. lol

That is the normale dilema for fishing crappie in summer where why and how!Look for summer crappie to suspend over and near good cover in deeper waters. Also they tend to just school out in open water feeding and following bait pods. You may find them on the move all day then holding one place come evening as waters cool and temps drop some.Channel mouths feeder creeks with some flowage to them will hold crappie.Deep rocky points and breaks look for deep water points that run into shallows that lead to deep weed lines.Bridge pilings with good current in the day time fish the down side current break and torward the evening fish the face.A good finder is to troll small baits or drift baits over suspected good spots the use set rig like the jig or slip cork and live minnow.Read your topo map and check spots!Think of ice fishing when they hold in deep water and fish those spots.I have found several of my best summer time crappie holes while ice fishing the lull.Summer time is night time with a floating light!

I think this poem is a reflection on one man’s life. The catches he chases are not just fish but metaphorically represent his life choices and endeavours. In the first stanza the fish he catches are rather loose women with red lips, open mouths and to him are pleasing to his eye. It is not for their spiritual souls he fishes, it is for lust. Like moths to a flame they are easily distracted by another’s attention or another’s bed. These catches came easily but are just as easily lost. As a young man his taste was suspect as he wallowed in a bloody sty.Stanza two sees him older but not wiser. He is no longer a player but a drinker. His mind is addled by whiskey and he is in the pits of depression. He no longer meets the world as he wallows this time in an alcoholic room of stupor. He does not dress nor know the day of the week as he stews in rage and is eaten from within by worms and worried by gnats.I will leave you to carry this analysis through if you agree the poem can be read this way.Robert Lowell was a tormented soul with many a crisis in his world.

If you are gonna get anywhere, you will have to take the risk of talking to him. Talk about anything, like the weather. If he’s interested, he will find something to say back, but to start with it will probably be kind of awkward. Being a good dancer and being a good “talker” are not the same thing, and he may not be an artist in both categories, so give him a chance or three before you come to any conclusions.

This is one of my favourite poems from Lord of the Rings, but you’ve just copied from the book. What’s your question exactly? Do you have to analyze this or something?

Imagery = when there is a description that really conjures up a picture in the reader’s mind. This poem is FULL of it.Metaphors = when something is said to be something else, in this poem, an example is:’whip up waves into white horses’ (sorry this is about the only one I could find!)Similies = when something is likened to something else, for example:’leap and curl like kites tails’Alliteration = when there is a sentence where the same sound or letter is used at the beginning of most or all of the words. e.g. ‘wind doesn’t always whip up wavesinto white horses’Onomatopoeia = when a sound is described through a sound. For example (not in this poem) woof, miaow, crash, bang, splash etc. There is also a lot of personification which is when inanimate objects are given human characteristics: e.g. ‘wind doesn’t always run wild kicking tinny dustbin lids’ and ‘dry leaves and old newspapers to leap’ and ‘tree shadows to dance on rivers to jig about on grass’ etc.Anyway I hope I have managed to explain everything clearly =)
