Canada: Lake of the Woods or the English River

If you are willing to travel a little ways Pewaukee Lake, and Lake Nagawicka in Waukesha county both have good northern populations. I know Pewaukee has musky but I’m not sure about Nagawicka. Hwy 83 runs right between the two lakes. On the west side of the hwy is Nagawaukee county park with camping and a landing for Nagawicka. Just across the hwy is a public boat landing for Pewaukee.

Porbably carp getting ready to spawn or feeding in the shallows. Try some bread for bait and carp are very skittish in shallow water so dont let it see you if you want to catch it

Catfish can grow really big, but carps grow really big just too,and for walleyes well they can get really big too,now perhaps a largemouth bass could have bitten the bait as well.those are the species that are most likely to grab nightcrawlers. Now stripers are most commonly caught on shad or perch

My grandparents use to take me to Lake Eagle Crest..the lake has 0 pan fish..Grandfather caught a 36 inch Muskie out of there. No motorized boats are allowed on the lake. Not sure how far north in WI it is though. But we also use to go to lake Chetach (not sure of spelling) ..the lake is huge. It’s east of Rice lake ..close to Birchwood and I believe Hayward sits on the northern side of the lake. They have a great area for bass..the water is so clear you can see them swimming around. Great place for Northern, Walleye and pan fish as well..Even caught a northen pike fishing with a bobber of the pier.. I know that one is about 360 miles north of Rockford, Illinois.

try it without the wire at first. most likely the wire leader will spook most bass and you will get few, if any, strikes. and most fish l have gotten on frogs are hooked in the jaw with the hook eye, therefore the line, outside of it’s mouth preventing the line from getting cut. most of the noisy topwater frogs are hit so savagely that waiting to set the hook and allowing the fish to swallow the lure is completely unnecessary.a bass or walleye won’t cut your braid, and most likely not a pike. don’t know about the musky. l can count on no fingers all the musky l have ever hooked. that’s another we aren’t blessed with in california. had some nice pike in davis lake but they eradicated them all. no walleye either.

I don’t ever recall a northern pike being taken from the Delaware river. If it’s musky you seek, travel a little further and fish the Susquehannafrom the Falls Bridge upstream to Tunkhannock – a local hotspot is where Tunkhannock creek empties in to the Susquehanna.Try big Rapalas. jerkbaits, large Mepps spinners. Look for an eddy or backwater and fish it hard.

My shopping list would be a Tiny Torpedo, A Zara-spook(use a walk the dog jerking retrieve on that), some spinnerbaits assorted colors(white, chartreuse, black), some small jigs with small Sassy-shads(great for pan-fish/bass), some small grub-tails for the jigs……also get some worm hooks and some sluggo’s and rig them weed less and toss them in the weeds, last but not least buy one good size dare-devil and make sure you buy some 8inch 18 lb “invisa-leaders” from south -bend from walmart that’s protection from pike teeth…..now don’t go crazy buying 5 or 6 of each ……. one of each will get you started…………

All depends on where and how you are fishing. Live bait is the best, I have had the best luck for Pike with large minnows on a treble hook with a large bobber. Remember the larger the bait the larger the prey, little minnows will get eaten up buy little fish. Big bait get eaten by the big ones that may not get away, if your lucky.Just remember, “a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.”

If a Pike is big enough it will attack anything it wants! Last summer my kids (and their cousins) were swimming in a lake and were attacked by a POed Pike. He was only 34″ or so, (I later caught him on a Rapala suspending Husky Jerk Minnow.) Having fished for “Cuda on the Flats of the Keys and elsewhere I understand why they call Pike the “cuda of the North”. I’m not sure if a 10LB Pike would “eat” a 4LB Bass but it would certainly attack one!(Thumbs to Donald)

Quite the selection of fish in the lake. I would suggest that you perhaps have a couple of each of the following. I would also suggest that you pay a visit to a local Bait shop & ask them what the fish in Eagle Lakes are hitting on. They would have a much better answer than anyone here will be able to provide, unless someone here has fished that same lake.A few popular brands to use are as follows:1) Rooster Tails2) Panther Martins3) Kastmasters4) BlueFox5) RapalaHere is a link to several different types of lures for Freshwater fishing. They give you pictures & brief info for each.http://www.tackledirect.com/fresfislur.htmlGood luck & Have fun!-MRG

Your ugly stick will work fine. Just fish with what ya got. I’m in Texas where the catfish are huge so I use a medium or sometimes heavy action rod. However, I was born and raised in northern Michigan where there are plenty of large muskie and pike. You might want to get a stainless steel leader. The pike have sharp teeth that line the entire top of their mouths. Regular line is too weak. I used to catch huge muskie and pike on a $3 Zebco rod & reel in the 1960′s. Anything that gets the job done. Right?.

Below the dam near the tail races. If you want real specificity, at night, according to academic research. The controversy about dams is the impact it has on smolt and other “food” coming through dams. It at least stuns them, making them easy pickin’s for larger fish. They are predators and know where and when to forage. Many times, predators will hang out in quieter water adjacent to faster current. In that manner, the food comes to them.

I have gone fishing there before, and it is hit or miss. I have had days where I reel in 20, and some days with none.
