Why do fish strike the bottom part or a spinnerbait instead of the blade?
I know that Spinnerbait Buzz the blade represents a wounded bait fish swimming erratically but why do fish strike the skirted hook instead, it seems like they would bite the " bait fish " ( blade )?

Ask your friend what brand and model of spinnerbait it is and look for it on eBay.

  2. Injun Says:

A jig and some spinner baits are near cousins one it to work slow with little or no flash and one is to work faster to super speed with lots of flash and vibration! The skirted spinner has blades on it for flash but has a very basic jig body!Used as a finder or reaction bait too!The jig usually has no blade or blades on it and is used to target fish in specific cover or structure!exert you and I need to do some jig fishing together!

  3. Injun Says:

I would not use a float for fishing a spinner bait that takes away all it needed action! If you are getting hung go to a weedless design!

  4. Brilliant Says:

Spinnerbaits like the one you bought can catch a variety of fish, so chances are you will hook something else (bass, pike, even crappie) before you hook the ‘skie you’re dreaming of. If you are fishing in the early spring, while the water is still cold, you are going to be targeting pike with that lure, and if it’s flashy, you will get bites. You want to cast into shallow weed beds, weedlines, and gaps or openings in the weeds. When I say weeds now I mean submergent vegetation, or vegetation the doesn’t breach the surface of the water (which is known as emergent vegetation). The northerns will be spawning in these areas as well as hiding down in the vegetation waiting for fish to swim over so they can ambush from below. Run your spinnerbait just between the top of the weeds and below the surface. If you see a fish following your bait, don’t slow it down! Speed it up. Make it look like its trying to escape. Like I said, you will hook into pike real easily in the spring, but most musky are dormant at this time. As the water warms during the summer, the musky will become active. The warm summer water is their ideal feeding condition, and they spawn later in slightly warmer water than the pike. They are not necessarily more difficult to catch than a pike, dispite popular belief. They are a very aggressive fish, just like a pike. The reason for their elusiveness is because they hatch later than the young pike who have had a chance to grow, and they in turn become forage for the pike. The result is a much smaller muskie population in lakes that also contain pike (which is pretty much all of them). If you target summer muskies in those shallow, weedy areas in lakes that have musky populations, you will find them with your spinner bait. When they do hit, and you feel the weightt of the fish, keep steady pressure on them. If you give them slack, they will spit out your bait! Keep pressure and set the hook like its your job, again, never letting off on line tension. Keep that tension throughout the fight, and reel em in! Don’t forget a sturdy braided line(at least 30lb test) and a leader(at least a foot long). Tie your braided line to your leader with a palomar knot. That help? Good luck!

mornings and evenings are probably the best times although shaded spots can hold them all day long. particularly when water temps begin to rise in the summer. l prefer weeds that come to within a foot or two of the surface for spinnerbait use. trees, stumps, laydowns are other prime bass holding locations that offer good results for spinnerbaits. buzz it up to a tree or log, hit it and let it drop. many times bass will be there waiting.

  6. enufofthisshit Says:

most soft plastics or jigs should be just the ticket for nesting bass.they should still be on their spawning beds in april in illinois.l live in socal and start taking bedding bass in february. soft plastics have always been the ticket.like l said, a jig, a texas rigged worm or salamander, a drop shotted 4″ worm, shaking a worm…a more compact bait will be more desirable as many times the bass just picks a worm or creature by the tail and drops it off the nest with no thought of eating it.

  7. James W Says:

Answer: 7/64oz.I prefer 1/16 but it is not on the list. An 1/8 spinner is okay when they are very aggressive. You’ll have many short bites with an 1/8oz spinner when trout aren’t as aggressive.

  8. Josh V Says:

You dont drag spinnerbaits, you keep them moving, so that blade can spin, which reflects light, and sends ripples through the water to attract your fish. I use them on cloudy days. I wouldnt use one in a river, unless it was a huge river with still water. You need you a crankbait, plasic worm, or rooster tail.Live bait would do the job to.

  9. John D Says:

Two things…. Mimic the hatch and lure color meets water color. The clearer the water the lighter the color bait you want to use. If the water is very clear then I would try a white skirted spinner with chartreuse streaks in it. Or I would just use a bit of spike it to color the skirt. Also, go with silver willow or colorado leafed blades. Colorados will let you slow your presentation in cooler waters. About the hatch, if shiners are hatching use those colors, if it’s crawfish then use a light craw colored to yo yo off rock and rip rap walls.

  10. Ole Fisherman Says:

All 3 are great for catching Bass in large ponds and small lakes. Spinnerbaits- In a pond situation, I would stick with single Colorado bladed SB’s in 1/4-3/8 OZ size. Use heavier Mono line (14-17LB) to keep the SB from rocketing to the bottom. (Most Pro Bass fishermen use heavier Mono for SB’s because it has a high floating characteristic and more line drag due to diameter.) A Single Colorado bladed SB can be burned on the top of the water mimicing a fleeing Shiner/Shad or Frog AND can be slow-rolled in deeper water. If there is a large population of Shiner/Shad IN the lake/pond you fish, then double Willows can be productive. How to fish a SB? The most important thing to remember about SB fishing is to KEEP MOVING. Pepper an area and then move down the shore- SB fishing should NOT be as slow as Soft Plastics fishing, (unless your slow rolling). That is one of the main issues most new Bass fishermen have with SB’s. A novice fisherman should utilize a SB as a “search bait”. However, someone with more experience could use a SB exclusively all day and do quite well.Make sure to vary your retrieve! That is the KEY to SB’s! Crankbaits- In a small lake/pond situation I would suggest you use Cranks in the correct depth. Color and depth rule Cranks! The depth of the lure also designates how and where you will fish it and what color it should (generally) be. Using Rattle Trap type lures are a fantastic way to find “active fish” – you would burn these at the depth you wanted. Cordell Spots are a good generic lure of this type that is cheap and productive- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44610____SearchResultsFloating Cranks should generally be burned. If your fishing in gin clear water go with less bright colors, otherwise try Reds, Chartreuse, Sexy Shad, and Brown & Green Crawdad colors. For outside weedbeds in 12-15 FT try fishing a 8-10FT running depth Crank. For clipping the tops of weeds try a Manns 1- …..Etc. Use the corresponding depth seeking Crank for where you think the fish are holding. Soft Plastics- SP’s are probably going to be your most popular lure. Senko type worms rigged “Wacky Style” is all the rage currently, but “Texas-rigged” can be just as effective Use Soft Plastics around any shallow water, weedy, structure where a “weedless lure” is vital. Best “general” colors? Black/Blue, Black, Junebug, Pumpkinseed, Watermelon & Red Shad. This is all “basic” information. Add more info about the lake and the conditions you will be fishing in and you could get an even better “hypothesis”. However, some days Bass are finicky little sh*ts who want some crazy technique or lure. You just never know! But, I hope this helps you anyway? Good fishing.UPDATE: LMAO!!!!!! James you rock! (I know I should stop writing “books” for answer’s and let some of my fellow Bass fishermen get a word in edgewise, but I get so dang excited to talk about fishing I end up lose’n my mind! lol). I think James should get Best Answer- I agree with everything he said! (LOL)Good to see you back Wormist!

  11. Greg L Says:

could be a water dog. If it was on clearance, it probably won’t produce. I have never had any luck with cheap spinnerbaits.

  12. 34Luke34 Says:

check these jigs out it also tells about perch habitats and there feeding times…. the link to the websites are below:http://www.ebait.com/perch.asp-and this one….http://www.execulink.com/~environm/Fishing/perch.html-and this one lolhttp://fishandgifts.com/crappie_jigs.htmhope i helped pal!!!

  13. Grand Master BasserĀ® Says:

You read that in BASSMASTER and you want opinions from Yahoo! Answers?Ok.Yes, mono will work excellent with lipless crankbaits.

    When you are fishing

  15. bassplayer_1313 Says:

l think you could get by using a float with one of the tiny “beetle” type safetypin spinners used for panfish. you don’t generally want to reel those in too fast anyway. a float will allow you to slow down the retrieve of it.8lb??should be able to handle a fish of 40 or more pounds in the right hands.

  17. Bass Fishin' B I T C H Says:

Wow. Really? LOL!No. Who in the hell said you need a sinker on a spinnerbait for bass? Or any other fish for that matter.Spinnerbaits are made heavy enough to cast. Whether they’re an 1/8 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 3/4 ounce or a big Colorado-Bladed 1 ouncer, it doesn’t matter… they’re built to be casted without a sinker. Adding a sinker to them in completely pointless, makes you look like an idiot and a dumbass, and completely throws off the action of the spinnerbait.

  18. Anonymous Says:

It was on Green River Lake in Central Kentucky, about 5 or 6 yrs ago, In July, which is the month my birthday is in. At the time we lived in another location, and wife told me to pick a lake and go spend the weekend there for a birthday present.I had taken a long arm spinner bait and cut the arm down to make a single blade Colorado blade, and had put a gray ghost skirt on it with a silver # 4 blade.Well on the first morning there right at sun up, near the dam there is a real vertical wall, I cast that spinner bait up right next to the wall and it does not even have time to start sinking and gets slammed. Fish breaks the surface and I about have heart failure is the biggest SM I have ever seen, get her to the side of the boat, lip her and the spinner bait falls out.Fill the live well and put her in it and start running around trying to find someone to take a pic ( camera I had then did not have a timer on it for self portraits, etc) Find a guy and he goes nuts,(local and says that is the biggest SM he had seen caught on that lake) any way get some pics taken, put her back in the live well and run right back over to where I caught her and let her go.On my cheap digital scales I had she was 6# even.Did not catch another fish the whole weekend, but that one is still my biggest SM.

  19. Artie Says:

you have it as a tool, like everything in your box, alone, together with, in combination with, just another way to change and maybe even improve one bait or rig it’s all just a tool to give you better results more fish caught in less casts. like any bait though, it’s presentation, profile, feel and taste they all have to be working together at the right time in the right place. Sometimes it could hurt a bite adding trailers, sometimes it doesn’t. You learn by trial and error and keeping a record if you write something down you want to remember it has a 40% better chance of being remembered. if you write it down twice… ? grubs make excellent trailers, on jigs, spinnerbaits, buzz baits and clackers so do craws, swimbaits and curly tail worms. I think that when bouncing a spinnerbait up off the bottom and then letting it drop fluttering back to the bottom then back up (about a foot off the bottom) and then back down especially with a swim bait trailer is a damn good presentation of a hurt and barely living small fish. Like when people hear what they want I think too that animals see what they want and when the instinct to thin the heard takes over in a predator, almost anything can happen.
