Lake AttitashThis shallow, 360-acre lake in Amesbury and Merrimac is one of the best pike waters in the northeastern part of the state. Pike have been stocked off and on since 1979, and big fish tipping the scales at more than 20 pounds have been taken here. Lake Attitash has a maximum depth of 30 feet, with an average depth of 12 feet. The most significant weed cover may be found at the inlet and outlet coves of the lake. The shoreline is heavily developed, but there’s good access at the southern end of the lake. See DeLorme’s Massachusetts Atlas and Gazetteer, Map 19, for access and area details. East Brimfield ReservoirThis 420-acre reservoir in Sturbridge is comprised of three bodies of water — Holland Pond, the Quinebaug River and Long Pond. The reservoir, especially the old river channel, is known for giving up massive pike. Pike have been stocked here for well over a decade, and because it takes these fish about five years to reach the minimum length, there are plenty of mature fish here. Access may be had on the southern end of Long Pond off Sturbridge Road. For Holland Pond access, use Morse Road off East Brimfield Road. For fishing information, you can visit http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw, or call (508) 389-6300.Try shad raps or super shad raps

  5. BLUE TIGER Says:

Northern Pike and Muskies are really so much alike, they both feed together and eat the same fish bait and lures, i think useing brighter colored lures along with useing smaller lures for pike, try useing spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, a jig with a white twister tail on it, and johnson silver spoons tipped with a white twister tail on it maybe 3 or 4 inches, both of these fish feed by sight and they are really good fighters.Good Luck Fishing.

Fish the tippy river up around Rochester area I have taken pike up to 19 lbs.The best fishing will be in the spring april and may and slows down in the summer. If summer fishing fish the holes!Fish deep creek area, germany bridge delong area and fish green crawlers, live shiners or sucker minnows.

  7. Artie Says:

swim baits are soft (worm like) paddle tail baits usually hooked up with leadheads. Jerk baits are hard plastic or wood baits (just like crank baits) but have no lip off the front which makes them dive down during a retrieve. some have spinners on them or hollowed out front ends they are also called stick baits, cigar baits, pencil poppers, poppers and spooks (for the zara spook) they almost all are top water baits that float and with varied retrieves the action changes.

  8. Artie Says:

in line bucktails are the best and almost every lure company makes something close. You need a high speed reel and a heavy action rod. steel leaders are recommended as well in may you will want to be in inlets bays and harbors fishing weedlines, drop offs and stumps. Anywhere they can hide in the shade facing clear clean water from underneath, around behind and next to anything that will hide them so they can ambush unsuspecting food swimming by. I saw a guide tell a client that reeling fast is a mandatory technique for them but my cousin (in Minnesota) taught me to reel kinda fast up to those (possible attack points) and then after passing a potential strike point really reel fast then and I think it works as we caught plenty on three lakes reeling two speeds all day.

  9. SageFly Says:

Troll buddy, if you have a nice motor then go for it. Think about it, when trolling you cover more ground and you follow a simple fishing rule “you can’t catch fish if your lure isn’t in the water.” Trolling lets you keep that lure down and the more you do that the more fish you can target.

  10. Ole Fisherman Says:

Well, #1. What do you consider “huge”? Last week I went Bass fishing on Lake Pokegama and hooked into 2 nice pike, (one was roughly 38″ and the other one was closer to 40″). Those are respectable Pike, (esp when your not really targeting them). Any of the major lakes in MN should harbor some bigger Pike this time of year. Lake Vermillion, the Malmo area of Mille Lacs Lake, Pokegama, Rainy, Lake of the Woods, Etc. Fish the deepwater weed-edge with suspending Rapala’s, Large Jigs & Spinnerbait’s, Etc. I’m a hardcore Bass fisherman. So for me, it’s always, “Oh sh#t! Not another Snake!” (lol)One mans trash fish is another mans trophy. (lol) Good luck in your pursuit!

  11. Doug R Says:

Muskie are rare in industrial Mass. Try heading to the Connecticut River in NH. Float down on a canoe and fish for trout, bass, salmon, carp, pike, pickerel and musky.
