Me personally, I’m not a big spinnerbait kinda guy. I’ll use ‘em occasionally. At night usually. Most of them are between 1/4 ounce and 1/2 ounce. I use anywhere between 8 and 12 pound line with a light to medium-heavy action graphite rod. For the big, Colorado-bladed musky-sized spinnerbait that I have (it weighs about 2 ounces), I use my heavy flippin’ stick with 15 pound mono. I can launch it a good country mile.I never, ever use a spinnerbait with a spinning rod, not even the small ultralight ones. If I wanna toss a small spinnerbait, I’ll use my dad’s ultralight Pixy outfit. Spinning rods just don’t have the correct action for them. And the reels don’t have the right.. what’s the word? The right… schtick.

Keep it simple, I have boxes and boxes of tackle but I seem to always use the same few items that I have confidence in. Pick a couple of different items and learn how to fish them very well. Knowing how to fish plastic worms.grubs like a pro is better then knowing a little bit about a ton of lures.Depends on the species of fish you want to catch – I would suggest just finding out whats in the lake then go to the closest tackle shop to this lake and ask them what you need to get started. Tell them you have a 30 dollar budget and let them do the shopping for you. They will know exactly what works and what sizes ect. but if you choose you’ll be guessing and wasting your budget.

In Alberta i like to use a bottom boucer & troll for Walleye. Use a bottom bouncer w/a spinner topped off w/a minnow. As for pike they just about bite anything. If your not into a bottom bouncer then there is always the jigging method. But i prefer the bottom bouncer & cover more area.
