STOP – here’s some very important information about Lure Kit that you must read right now. When I was searching for Lure Kit, I wish I had found a review that would have helped me make a buying decision.
Can anyone help with ideas on what to add to a primitive fishing kit?
I am making my own fishing kit. One that will fit in a possibles bag. More likely than not I will be fishing by hand(hand line, no pole)and maybe one day a good cane pole. Here are the things I would like to add-3-6 flies, 3-5 Meps type lures, some spoons, assorted hooks, sinkers, weights, line(I will be using nylon Lure Kit line but may one day get a high quality synthetic line). All this stuff will fit into a tin and maybe wrapped in oil cloth to help protect the tin from rust.A kit like this does not really need all that much but I would like to have a small arsenal of lures/spoons and flies so no mater where I am in the world and no mater the time of day or night and no mater the weather, etc I WILL catch fish!I would also like to find some good 1-2 person camp fire fish/seafood recipes to go along with this.If you can help me put something together, please let me know.Thank you! This is a part of my Mt Man Kit.This kit is for both fresh and salt water fishing.I also would like both a fish and frog gig to add to the kit.Line 5 should read "a high quality non-synthetic line"

1.I prefer all of the above.2. It depends on what you are fishing for and what time of day and what time of year and water temperature and depth…etc. But let one thing be known. You can catch any fresh water fish (maybe not trout) with anything. I’ve reeled in tiny largemouth bass with blades of grass as bait and caught huge catfish on 1/8 oz pink rooster tails. 3. Swivels keep your line from getting all twisted up and make it easier to switch between hooks/jigs…etc.

Here are some suggestions for a survival fishing bag:1. Line??- Fishing line can be used for a variety of survival needs; snares, hanging tarps, binding, Etc. If you have the room, include as much as you can in various sizes. I suggest including a 1/4 Spool of 14LB Mono and a smaller spool of Braided line. Here are two brand suggestions- A. Berkley Big Game (green colored) line- http://www.basspro.com/Berkley®-Trilene®-Big-Game®-Line-1/4lb–Spools/product/15127/-422671B. Power Pro, 10/40- (Braided line is EXTREMELY strong and could be used as an anchor line or anyplace you need a STRONG connection.)- http://www.basspro.com/PowerPro-Braided-Spectra-Fiber-Micro-Filament-Line-100150-Yards/product/44282/-9205072. Weights, Bobbers & Hooks- Because you want this possibilities bag to also include Saltwater as well as Freshwater tackle, you will need a larger selection of hooks. I suggest you get sizes ranging from size 6 to size 3/0. The larger hooks, (1/0-3/0) need to be “stainless”- those are the ones you’ll be using in saltwater. A good idea will be to include Circle Hooks. Why?? Circle Hooks automatically hook fish without much assistance from a rod- perfect for your application. Add a variety of Split Shot and barrel Weights in different sizes & hard-foam bobbers in various sizes and thats it for “terminal tackle”.Circle hook- http://www.basspro.com/Gamakatsu®-Circle-Hooks/product/19936/-5136573. One of the most important additions should be a Trot Line, (or Trot Line material) or an Automatic fishing Reel. Automatic reels work well because you can leave them attached to a springy tree limb, bait them up, and go about your business surviving, (tending your snares, making a shelter, Etc.) These work exceptionally well in river conditions for Catfish- http://www.cabelas.com/product/Yo-Yo-Automatic-Fishing-Reels/701933.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dtrot%2Bline%26x%3D21%26y%3D12&Ntt=trot+line4. Lures??- You can include Spoons & Flys ,(and other artificial’s) but in a survival situation you want to conserve energy. Casting a lure without a rod or reel is very tiring (and will quickly wear your arm out). Best to use local baits with a weight or bobber and a circle hook. 5. Cooking fish?? If you always have some aluminum foil on hand, you will always be able to make tasty “fish packets”. That is the easiest way to cook fish, (without lugging a fry-pan or pot around with you). Add some spices, (salt/pepper/and your fav spice mixture- mine is Emerils Cajun Seasoning), olive oil, (or Butter Buds) and your fresh fillets & you’ve got yourself the makings for a fine fish dinner- http://www.cabelas.com/product/Camping/Outdoor-Cooking/Spices-Seasonings-Marinades|/pc/104795280/c/104754780/sc/104593680/Plastic-Spice-Jars/715512.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fcamping-outdoor-cooking-spices-seasonings-marinades%2F_%2FN-1100711%2B4294770652%2FNe-4294770652%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104593680%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNUIf you don’t want to carry aluminum foil, (or a pan) around with you then you’ll have to cook your gutted fish over a fire suspended by a stick- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGSywU2RMvc Here is a frog/fish gig-head- http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops®-Frog-and-Fish-Spears/product/1356/-261845You will also want to add a nylon stringer for smaller fish- http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops®-Deluxe-72-Nylon-Stringer/product/60330/-262489Hope this advice helps ya? Good luck.

Sure is- in fact you could live a lot longer than that! if the situation were to arise, carrying items like lighters by bic and matches not covered in wax, would become useless if exposed to moisture. Those lighters which use pressurized butane gas and burn at 800C would be better suited but once gain you have to fill them up again. more clothing would be more important here as it will and does get damaged in the wild. Wearing layers is a better option as they can be added and removed. Also the bike wont be of much use in the areas of heavy foliage, more important than all that listed is training on how to survive with very little, you need items which are waterproof and wont just break or run out of fuel. Items like a “firesteel” would work well as they are waterproof and strike easily.

What a bunch of terrible answers!!!You want lures that put off alot of vibration. Typically in stained to clear water bass are primarily sight feeders, but in muddy water they rely on their lateral lines to sense the vibrations in the water to find prey. A few lures that work great in muddy water–A spinnerbait with a colorado blade. A colorado blade puts off alot of thump and vibration. Go with dark colors so they siloutte best.-Crankbaits with a wide wobble, and cranks with built in rattles.-Rattletraps in bright colors such as firetiger.-Jigs, worms, and other plastics in DARK colors with rattles. If your fishing a lake with big fish potential, use larger jigs, worms etc.. because they will put off more vibration. Check out the links below for some excellent articles that will help you alot. Good luck and tight lines!

I hope that you know that taking a shotgun, and ammunition for it, onto a public bus is a criminal code offence, in Canada ? A really BAD idea, my friend. Add the pot possession and you are looking at serious Federal Prison time, for having weapons and drugs together. Have you looked at the calender ? Its December. Do you want to die in the woods, like that kid in NS who wandered away from his home the other day ? Make sure you leave a will .Jim b. Toronto.

Blue Tiger is on the right track, (thumbs up). Here is what you need to pack and links to what they look like:1. 1/8 and 1/4 OZ Roundball Jigheads- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_89984____SearchResults2. 3″- 4″ Curly-tailed Grubs in Black AND Chartreuse-http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15723____SearchResults3. Size 8 Aberdeen hooks- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_47507____SearchResults4. A variety pack of Split Shot- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_100730____SearchResults5. A small leader pack of 12LB Fluorocarbon line (at least 100 yards)- (FYI: Fluorocarbon has the same refractive index as water thus making it invisible underwater- more importantly- invisible to fish!!) 12LB is tough enough for larger fish and due to Fluro’s invisibility you will have no problems with “line shy fish” – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_96676____SearchResults6. A spool of 6/20 Power Pro braided line- Braided line is EXTREMELY strong, (and could be used, in a pinch, as a lanyard line, fish stringer, to hold up a tarp, as an ANCHOR line, Etc.), but has a very low diameter making it perfect for fishing- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44282____SearchResults7. A pack of 5-8 Bobbers- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15810____SearchResults8.Johnson, Weedless Spoon- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_2904_100008003_100000000_100008000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_SEARCHIf you carry all of this you can catch Bass, Walleye, Pike, and Crappie. You may want to include some sort of fold-able shovel- to hunt for worms and natural bait…….Hope this helps ya?
