I’ve used both, and I’d go with the Mega Strike. It is awesome on your soft plastics, and all you need is a dab. It’s about 7-8 bucks a tube but goes a long, long way! This is of course, more for bass fishing with soft plastics (but works equally as well on your hardbaits!) For catfish I lean more towards Gulp Alive.

You can use it if you like too. But you to have power bite at hand if your idea do not work and good luck to you o.k.

What are you fishing for?? Yes Gulp alive is a good bait, it is very popular especially for inshore fishing. It’s pretty much the same as regular Gulp (just packaged different) they say it’s not the same but it’s close. I’ve heard people say they don’t like it for bass fishing, personally I’ve only used it for Redfish, Seatrout, Snook and stuff like that

here goes, tie a lead head jigging hook on to your line using a knot called a perfection loop (found easily on google). this allows lure swim action, but leaves the knot in front of the lure so it does not deter fish. now insert the point of the hook into the nose of the lure and feed the lure onto the hook until you guess the point is halfway down the lure. now push the point through the bottom of the lure (for surface and midwater predators such as bass or bream) or the top of the lure (for bottom feeders such as catfish or flathead that may attack from the tail or drag down on the lure from underneath).

They are excellent for large mouth bass, especially around now when they are bedding down. GULP Alive is the 2nd generation of the GULP products, more scent and better action in the water.

actually the sperm whale is the biggest living carnivore eating squids but can’t swallow a person whole because their throat are small and the whale shark only eats plankton and other small organisms.

you’d want to use a 1/4 to 1/2 oz Jighead.

Mine ate one once, but it was a dead one on the asphalt. She barfed it back up not long afterward. She ate a cicada this morning. Dogs are gross.

Well……. Gulp has many forms. The “Worms” should probably be hooked “Texas Style”, “Wacky Style” or used on a Shakey Jig. The 4″ (and down) “Shads”&”Curly-tails” should be used in conjunction with a Jig 1/8-1/2OZ. Generally, you try to keep them as “weedless” as possibile. In fact, most Soft Plastic Lures are designed for Texas/Wacky rigging. Hope this helps ya? Good fishing.

Hard to tell. Gander carries a lot of their own branded baits these days. It could have been something they offer or it could have been something from a local tackle maker. At my local store they have smaller, local bait company products available. I’ve seen big bags of locally poured soft baits for sale in almost every bait and tackle store I have visited. In my area (Southeast US) guys like to make their version of a Sassy Shad. They usually come packaged in everything from small 5 count bags to big 300+ count bags. They are popular with bass and striper guys around here.

I catch a lot of pike and some bass & walleye on 3 inch gulp minnows, Rig them just like a regular minnow, through the lips. With a spinner. With a jig I thread the gulp on the jig and slide it up past the barb. I have the best luck with pumpkin seed or water mellon myself.

There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t. I’m not sure if other soft plastics will soak up the juice though.
December 22nd, 2010 at 4:08 am
No. I’ve used it a few times but to me it seems like it doesn’t contain the smell or juices other baits have. Maybe it’s just me but I wonder if gulp relies on it’s marketing rather than it’s success in the water:( I dunno. Anyways, good luck fishing and remember you can’t go wrong with a package of nightcrawlers.

amazing question. I have seen and done this test. where fish will move plastics (worms, craws, lizards and grubs off the bed (actually pick them up by the tail and move it out away from the rock surrounded area) when spawning. they actually swallow the baits with scent on them and they don’t care what scent is on what bait.

I have used Berkley gulp for summer and winter fishing with pretty good success. Sometimes better than live bait. It comes in many colors and sizes. I would try different sizes and colors and see what happens. Good luck.

you have it as a tool, like everything in your box, alone, together with, in combination with, just another way to change and maybe even improve one bait or rig it’s all just a tool to give you better results more fish caught in less casts. like any bait though, it’s presentation, profile, feel and taste they all have to be working together at the right time in the right place. Sometimes it could hurt a bite adding trailers, sometimes it doesn’t. You learn by trial and error and keeping a record if you write something down you want to remember it has a 40% better chance of being remembered. if you write it down twice… ? grubs make excellent trailers, on jigs, spinnerbaits, buzz baits and clackers so do craws, swimbaits and curly tail worms. I think that when bouncing a spinnerbait up off the bottom and then letting it drop fluttering back to the bottom then back up (about a foot off the bottom) and then back down especially with a swim bait trailer is a damn good presentation of a hurt and barely living small fish. Like when people hear what they want I think too that animals see what they want and when the instinct to thin the heard takes over in a predator, almost anything can happen.

A lot of walleye fishermen use them on a spinner rig instead of a live minnow or leech. This rig also catches smallmouth. You can also texas rig them on a small EWG worm hook and fish them like a fluke.
