    This is a pretty interesting question as there are not to many people around anymore that actually do make their own lures, although the practice used to be pretty common as the commercial lure selection was not nearly as it is today. I know a few guys on Cape Cod that still do it and they always come out on top, because once you get the basic skills down on carving, and a little painting, you can match virtually any bait that runs native through your area. It’s obviously way to much to describe here, as it is more of a trade then a lesson, but it’s absolutely an obtainable skill that can be learned by anyone with extremely gratifying rewards. Here is a great book to get the basics, this book will put a dozen or so homemade, handcarved, native bait plugs in your box, and you will be truly proud of them.PS. I still have wooden plugs that were handcarved by my great great grandfather, and not only are they high end antiques, they are, and always will be, part of my family.

    I can only tell you that they go for about 100 dollars but there value is in the fact that on the end of a fishing pool you will get a fish

    Never heard of a croaker taking anything artificial. Although they say that “Fish bites” work. Maybe a DOA shrimp!!
