I’ve been a bit slow on posting reviews of the last couple of Soft Bait, but it’s time to catch up. Overall, the Soft Bait was great, and I have no problem recommending Soft Bait for anyone wanting one.
I LOVE THIS Soft Bait
fishing bait for these fish?
ok so this is my first time fishing ever. there is striped bass, blue fish, perch, croakers Soft Bait and weakfish in breton bay where i will be fishing at. i dont want to use live bait because that means going to the fishing shop 40 miles away from me every time i fish. what lures/jjigs/soft baits do you reccomend. a link would help too.

It depends on what you’re fishing for. Some fish are more line shy than others. If you’re fishing for catfish, just tie onto the braid. If you’re fishing for another species that gets spooked easy, tie on a mono or fluorocarbon leader.

I like to use little plastic insect baits for bream and bluegill in the summer along and little plastic tubes and minnows in the cooler times. As far as catfish go good luck they seem to bit a bit smarter and rarely go for soft plastics. Your best bet would be cut bait or catfish specific baits.

Hi Mattgreat question, the thing about useing plastics, is that you realy need more than one type in your tackle box. There are many types and depending on location you may need to look at size and weight’s that your useing before you find the right balance. If you realy feel the need for more info, I have some great reading on the matter, hope you find what your looking for and then go out and catch some big Bass.Good FisfingEdward Camilleps checkout my address site

don’t fish in the reef fish above it or beside it on the sand. fishing in it and you will lose your whole box because the fish and octopus AZ forget to mention that are deep in the holes and crevices of the reef you will not get out of those holes and crevices. I use bait over reefs and plastics next to them fairly effectivly. I can see the bottom when fishing the sand bottoms but here is how I do it when the bite is on the reef and the bait is old and i have to use plastic.first if you know the depth drop the bait onto and bring up two cranks and raise and lower your rod tip. second if you can cast out count down on the fall to the depth just above the reef and retrieve the baits parrelel to its topthird don’t fish plastics (swim baits) throw giant long plastic worms 12″ long or better and use the second technique and be ready cabazon and in reef preditors will come out of their holes and feed and then go back into the hole they occupy so crank down your drag and reel up like a S O B because you have to get on them in a hurry to keep them out of their holes. this would be the time to fish the fastest retrieve reel in your arsenal.

If you’re talking about catfish dough bait, I do not recommend it.

Wow, my own soft plastics… or as I would call them, “Softics”.My favorite plastics already are the heavily salted Gary Yamamoto Fat Ikas and any number of curly-tailed and garlic scented 8″, 10″, and 12″ black worms. I can’t really think of anything better than that.I can think of a plastic-bodied swimbait though. Probably with the characteristics of several different brands with the scent and flavor technology of Yum! or Berkely Gulp! baits. I figure a trout looking swimbait between 8″ and 12″ long, maybe a couple inches bigger. Weighing about 10 ounces or so. The shape and body style of a original Jerry Rago Trout Tool. The soft plastic material of a Huddleston ROF 16. The lifelike scale patterns and fins of a SPRO BBZ-1. If I wanted it jointed, I’d like the connections of those from a Castaic Catch-22. Lastly, I would want the people at Gulp! to inject the plastic with not only the scent of rainbow trout, but the FLAVOR as well. When a big bass closes its jaws around my bait, I want the lure to explode with flavor of REAL rainbow trout, making the bass believe its got a succulent Oncorhynchus mykiss in its maw. Instead of just adding scent and flavor to it, they can also slip a pouch similiar to a Tide Stain Release of their special formulated liquid into the bait, that way when pressure is applied to the bait’s middle section, the pocket will literally blow flavor into the fish’s mouth driving it crazy and making it bite harder and hold on longer. Finally I would arm the bait with well placed hooks like a CL8 Bait. A single top hook to pin any fish grabbing the bait by the head. The bottom hook would be 4/0 Extra Wide Gap double hook, hooking fish attacking from below, and a 2/0 Extra Wide Gap Treble at the tail of the bait finally brings a solution to the problem of short biters, without having to employ bulky, profile- and action-ruining stinger rigs. A bigger 7/0 treble hanging from below the head to snag fish coming up from below the front. Both of the rear hooks would be held securely in channels by magnets. In addition, each hook would be painted to blend in with the color of bait. You asked to share my DREAM bait…

B.F.B is right, what are you fishing for? A buck tail jig is an all purpose deal and can catch Snook to Grouper and then some. I like to use a knocker rig with a circle hook baited with a whole ballyhoo. This is great for big snapper, grouper and whatever else is in the mood. Then again I’ll fish the ends of the jetty with a balloon rig and go for kings and other Macks in the area as well as Tarpon and sharks. Then I’ll fish the beach side of a jetty for Look Downs, Jacks and whatever. I can also fish the jetty itself for Sheepshead, Snook, Snapper, Angel Fish and so on. Everything I mentioned requires different gear and line test as well as lure/ bait types. Unless you specify what you’re after there’s not really much to say but good luck.I can offer you a tip though. When you fish a jetty with heavy current, always cast opposite the current is going, keep your line taut and allow the lure/bait to swim past you with the current. Cover all the levels of the water (top, mid and bottom bounce the rig.) for maximum coverage. Look for the bait balls ( pilchards or mullet ) and fish behind and under them, the larger fish are holding back waiting for the stragglers. It doesn’t even have to be baitfish they can also be balled up game fish like undersized snapper or whatever. Keep your eyes on the locals, if you see them catching fish you should follow their lead and do exactly what they do. Last but not least, do not over look the rocks under your feet. You’re pretty much standing on the only structure about and where do you think the fish want to hide? Okay, I gave you a bunch of tips but it’s better than nothing. Trial and error will lead the way and you shouldn’t give up a spot if you don’t catch a fish the first time ( or few after) out. Learn it, live it, & love it.~good luck catchin’.

Yes you should put a trailer hook on. It will sometimes affect the plastic trailer but not as likely if you use the shorter trailer hooks. The chances of short strikes and lost fish due to not having the trailer hook on are too great not to put one on. I have caught thousands of bass hooked only on the trailer hook. If I had not put one on then I would have a lot of frustration instead of Bass.Good luck.
