When Bait Shad arrived, I opened the package and was impressed with the solid packaging which insured Bait Shad didn’t arrive damaged in any way, shape, or form.

Overall, my experience was amazing. I hope this helps you make a solid buying decision.

What kind of cheese makes the best bait for channel catfish?
I have the hardest time catching decent sized catfish on a brackish river in NC. So I got the next 2 days off and Im put all my effort to catchcin a nice sized fish. Tonight Bait Shad and tommorow Im heading to the store to buy some premeir bait (chicken livers, shad, and that kinda stuff). What kind of cheese should I get?? provolone? american?I know its a kind of cheese called bait cheese I found on a website and Im going to order it in the next couple of days. I just want something that might work till then,By the way, dont just say "stinky" cheese. I dont eat cheese too much so I have the slightest idea of which kind is stinky.

Locally people get a fly weight rod and a sabicki rig. They jig it through the water to collect bait fish.http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0003478313574a.shtml

Live shad and worms are both great for catfish. Another good bait is smelly old (at least a week old and turning colors) chicken livers. I wouldn’t use a bobber, because catfish are bottom feeders. Place the sinker about 4 inches from the hook, so the hook can float freely in the water just inches off the bottom. Try to find a channel or deep area, throw out your line, and wait for a bite. Sometimes the biggest fish seem to just barely nibble, then they end up swallowing the hook. Good luck.

I like to free-line live shad. They’re going to stand out no matter what, and the striper are going to key in on that. Any fish that looks/appears to be injured or different from the rest is going to be an easier prey for them. You can also put a small weight above the fish, maybe 2-3ft, and that will help to weigh it down a little. It will swim more sporadically and a little closer to the bottom. Place a (lighter) sliding sinker on your mainline, then attach a swivel, then your leader and hook. I personally don’t like “live-bait” hooks. I think they are too thick wired and aren’t appropriate for striper. I use octopus…they’re a little bigger, pierce faster, and don’t pop off as easy. If you want your bait to hug the bottom, then you can always put on a heavier weight attached to a slider above the swivel. Other live baits are strung out in the same way.
