depends on what you are going for I use a grauvell and an ugly stick my hubby uses sonik and zziplex, I really like the zziplex but I prefer my grauvell as I get a good fight through it, it does have back bone and is light and easy tto take about.I use it for conger, skate, pollack, ling and dogfishhope that helps

By far the best company is Luna Tours. They have three boats and the boat you want to be on is the Magic Moon. You need to request that boat… The Magic Moon has it’s engines mid helm and the boat is faster than nearly every other boat in Quepos, that means more fishing time since you will be out there faster than any of the other boats and it also means you can change location quicker than anyone else so if a big bait ball appears with all kinds of fish on it, you can get there faster than the other boats. I run tours and this is the boat I send all my clients on and we have never been disappointed. Our groups have caught lots of big tuna, tons of sailfish, some big marlin, dolphin fish (mahi mahi) and wahoo. The office for Luna Tours is in the Kamuk Best Western Hotel right on the main street in Quepos and the owner’s name is Jerry. You can see them online at thttp://www.lunatours.net

$800-$1000 depending on how prestigious the company you are going with and for how long the trip will be.We did deep sea fishing trips in Kona, Hawaii and Costa Rica… For 8 people it was around $2000 for a couple hours so… I’m guessing staying in Florida is mostly likely half thatGrouper will be a lot of fun

I have been in your situation before. Actually, you are being smart in not just going. Ocean fishing is much more specialized so really need to be informed or you will be wasting alot of time. You should direct your questions to the fishing tackle store in the area where you want to fish. It is in their best interest that you catch fish. They will help you work through your questions. Easiest is a relative term. For example, hand line fishing from a dock is easy and simple but fishing from a boat can also be “easy” but you will catch 10 times more fish. A lot of ocean fishing is done in boats. Do you know if you get seasick? Do you know if you take the proper medicine you can prevent it? Before you go out, you need to know the answer to those questions, Being seasick is one of the worst experiences you can have in life and still live through it. Be prepared.

I’ve always used Penn, This is well built, quality gear and will last forever if cared for properly. Penn gear is available at most of your better sporting stores or you can purchase through their website.

Channel Islands Harbor is in Ventura county, not LA County. They have quite a few boats, and how good the bite is will depend on which one you get on (that is, the length of the trip). The half-day boats will usually fish spots along the coast; the longer trips may run across to the islands or go up or down the coast, wherever the skipper thinks the bite will be best. You can get an overall count for the landing at :http://www.976tuna.com/e107_plugins/landing/wrapup.phpclick on the landing’s name and you’ll get a boat-by-boat breakdown.Check it in the evening once the reports are all in.You can also get details athttp://www.sportfishingreport.com/pages/landingdetail.php?landing_id=5Currently it seems the boats are doing bottom fishing, and making pretty good catches, with a few surface fish (calico bass and bonito) mixed in.Though it doesn’t make much difference for bottom fishing, for the surface fishing it helps to get a spot on the stern of the boat, which at CISC means you have to be near the front of the line when the boat is loading, which means showing up and buying your ticket sometimes a couple hours (or more, if the bite is on) before the departure time.
