reels Daiwa Sweepfire Secrets

I had to buy several items just to realize that Daiwa Sweepfire was the best choice for the price all along. The only negatives I’ve found were that there are better units available, but they are more expensive and the reviews I found on them were on the negative side. So here’s my final word. I 100% endorse Daiwa Sweepfire and will even show you some places to get it even cheaper than retail.

Your willing to spend $80 on a combo outfit? Why not spend a little more and get something better? Here’s a couple inexpensive, (but decent), options for ya-1. Pflueger President- 177 people give the President a 4.5 out of 5-read all the reviews at BPS- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_51666_100001002_100000000_100001000_100-1-2Personally, I’d rather have a really good Pflueger than a mid-level Shimano Sedona, Shimano Sonara or Daiwa Regal……2. Berkley Shock Rod- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104159____SearchResults (Guys in my Bass clubs have been purchasing these because they are cheap, strong, light-weight and durable. The next rod I purchase will be a Shock.) So for $20 more you could have a nicer combo….By the way, do you know how they ship combo’s??? They ship them in huge box’s wrapped together with no real consideration to “breakage”. Plus, combo rods are usually “2nds” that didn’t pass inspection……..The point? If you decide to purchase an already matched combo, pick through them carefully testing EACH one. Look at the guides, (make sure they are straight on the blank), check the stiffness of the rod, (just because it SAYS Medium does not mean it won’t be a medium heavy or a medium light), Etc. Also, because they are generally shipped so “slip-shod”, check the reel handles and bail for any bending or warping. They get banged around pretty good in shipping. (While I was working as a Manager at a Sports AU Store we ALWAYS had AT LEAST 2-4 combo’s per shipped box that had a “dud” in it’s midst. So be careful when inspecting the combo you decide to buy.)So, if you do plan to purchase an already matched combo inspect it CAREFULLY. And one word- Shimano!Hope this helps ya Mole? Good luck.UPDATE: Why would one give a thumbs down for an opinion? A thumbs down with no explanation? How chicken-s%#t is that?

I’m with big Worm, you may be waiting more than just a few days to get that catalog. They do have an online catalog for download which I know is not the same. You will be able to look at their products but not take it into the john with you unless your like my wife who at times has been known to take her lap top into the bathroom. EEeewww!

Hmm, could you compare any other two DIFFERENT reels? lol. Daiwa Aggrest’s are $179.99 and Abu Garcia Silvermax’s are $79,99 I believe. Of course the Daiwa Aggrest will be better for fishing, it costs $99.99 more. But the Aggrest reels (the new ones) were/are a flunk, they are built on the same frame as an $80 Exceler reel. And the reviews suck. The Silver Max is a nice reel for the price. I know a few people with them and they work them hard and has had no defects from them. But when a reel costs $100 more it’s going to the best, :D .

  5. bassplayer_1313 Says:

at 80 bucks for a rod/reel combo (new) you sure aren’t going to be getting a top drawer reel. with it’s high speed retrieve, you are going to grind up cheap gears in a hurry.unless you are prepared to spend a minimum of a hundred dollars (for just the reel), anything you get will give you pretty much the same lack of performance. a really good reel will cost twice even that.pick up a shimano citica for $120 and get a reel that will last a long time and give excellent performance.and even the very best and most expensive reels can not compete with sand or dirt from laying on the ground. or being dipped in the lake.thumbs to BC. :)

  6. Artie Says:

you buy what is comfortable in your hands, the combination that wont tire you out when fishing for hours upon hours or has stuff in the way of where you are use to having your fingers set and ready when focused on setting the hook.

I personally believe that unless they have a good product… the market would never support the product if it is overpriced. Think about this. If someone found out that Lamborghini’s were made out of Yugo auto parts, would the consumer support them any longer. Lamborghinis are high end, higher quality, and therefore more expensive. Now, this is not to say that there are some companies that overprice their product on the assumption that many people correlate price with quality. Maybe Lamborghinis ARE made from Yugo parts. They would mark up pricing to make people think they are premiere. The truth is…. If they were not good quality… the market would have shown that over years and they would have been out of business by now. Some people have problems with Daiwa, some people have problems with Lamborghini. I use a Shakespeare and a Zebco. While definatly not a “lamborghini” quality setup, They work for ME. That is what matters most. Get what you want, what you like, what you have tried out and know suits your fishing. Don’t go for what you are told you HAVE to have. You wouldn’t drive to work in your Lamborghini if your Ford works just as good.. (and gets more bang for your buck at the pump)And when in doubt… check out the return policy. If you don’t like it, or it doesnt stand up to your rigors of fishing, find out if you can return it.

Did some research and Uncle Buck from the website below claims to have a .pdf copy of the owner’s manual. I found it using a Google query to a fishing website. I leave contacting Uncle Buck to you.

  9. DJK Says:

The 210 was a very popular spincast reel. Dating it to the mid 80′s is about right. Most spincast reels are considered “kids” or “beginners” reels, and a lot of them were/are not made all that well. The 210 was an exception. This reel was of very good quality compared to most others, and it would still be fine to use today if you chose to.

  10. bigfoot Says:

basicly daiwa is the volvo of fishing rods and reels you can basicly treat it pretty badly and it will still work. Fish in the rain if you like most reels wont be hurt by the rain but salt water and sand you have to watch out for. But you are fishing fresh water. Personaly i fish st croix rods and shimmano reels but those can get into the 250s for rods and 300s for reels. I started out on a daiwa and they are very nice compared to the competition. Daiwa is the best for the money i am going to say there is no reason to by anything more unless you wanna spend the money or are getting them discounted by a sponsor like me with our club or if you are getting them for free. Oh if this is a bait caster, I would stay away low priced baitcasting reels can be a pain. at least the ones i have owned.

  11. David C Says:

well you should see what is the rated line on your rod and see if they match. also you can make a few cast and see how it feels. but i think a medium action is better

  12. Peter_AZ Says:

Go to http://www.daiwa.com/Reel/, click on “Service” and “Parts Diagram”, then type in the model number of the reel. Make sure you have the correct size of screwdriver and wrench so you don’t mess up the parts when you put it together, and make sure you have some reel lube for the moving parts.Or, put the parts in a bag and give them to a friend or a tackle shop and let them handle it.

  13. exert-7 Says:

This link will give you a few good tips for putting new line on your reel.http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/Miscellaneous-Articles/baitcasters.htmlThis one will show you a few ways to set up your reel to avoid backlasing.http://www.catcherman.com/features/baitcasters030307bud.htmNice reel by the way…I have always preferred Daiwa baitcasters and have several of them.

  15. Nathan S Says:

Here is a guy on Ebay selling a whole set of 7300′s and one is a 7300h. The whole set is going for $205 American so I would say your reel is worth about $20. If it’s in good shape I would fish with it.

  17. Backwater Charlie Says:

Neither!Go with a round-reel, definitely for catfish. Round reels are generally tougher and have greater line capacities than low-profile reels. If it’s channel cats that you’re targeting, I’d want a 6000 series Abu Garcia reel. These are the best catfish reels that are made, PERIOD. Just have to get a Swedish made one, stay away from the BCX and KALEX models…The “60″ series Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Record reel would be my first choice. Swedish made, brass gears, really smooth, great gray/blue color, not the worst price I’ve saw. Here’s the link to it : http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_67751____SearchResultsOr, for a spinning reel for catfish, you can’t beat the Shimano Baitrunners. Dependable and they have stood the test of time. A TON of catfishing guys use these reels for cats, I think the 6000-size would be best for channel cats. Link : http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10204506____SearchResultsI hate to put a $30 rod even in the same sentence with a $150 reel, but the Ugly Stik Catfish rods are GREAT rods. BUT, Ugly Stik Tiger Lite’s are $30 more and much better! They have 7′ medium rods that handle 10 – 50lb line (or something like that) and would work great for channel cats.On a general stand-point, I like to go with medium/heavy action rods. They have much more backbone in hook sets especially on a catfish’s tough mouth. But when there’s a medium rod that stiff a medium/heavy will be a shark rod.A good rod idea is buy which ever action that is rated about 12 – 25lb line. These seem to work great.

  18. I'm Infinite Says:

Yes, as long as the drag works and it’s in good working order it will do fine. Heck for 5lb and under fish the drag wouldn’t even have to work!
