ESP… Only, oooonly kiddin’… There are a’ number of reasons for that (just ta’ name a’ few), the sun might be castin’ your shadow on the waters, bait your usin’ might not be on their menu for that particular day (trust me ~ that is a “truebee”), hook my be a’ bit big for your bait exposin’ it too much, or say like with a live worm or nightcrawler you might not have it rigged properly etc., etc.. In other words fish are far from bein’ dumb and it’s the one that can outsmart em’ that reeps the harvest. Opp’s can’t leave the lucky ones out that just throw their line in the water, kick the dirt, walk away and next thing one hears is them screamin’. “Fish on, FISH ONNNNN”;)… < * ( {{ >

That would be a Castaic Platinum Series Swimbait I believe. I think I saw a program on FSN where they were using this bait or one similar to it with the magnetic hook attachment.Good luck.

If you are just talking about swimbaits in general then it depends on what you want. I don’t usually fish tournaments but I am a hardcore big bass fisherman and its very important to me so I shell out big bucks on tackle every month. If your serious about fishing and you won’t just use them a few times then forget them then they are definitely worth trying. The most important thing before you purchase a high quality swimbait is to choose the ones that will work for you. Many swimbaits are big, too big to be cast on your bass rod. They would require you to buy a new combo just for swimbaits. Now not all swimbaits are that big and unless your in california, mexico, texas, or florida then you really don’t need huge baits. There are plenty of average sized swimbaits which are better suited to the rest of us. I personally like the tru tungten shad because you are really getting 3 baits in one since you can add tungsten balls to adjust the sink rate. Just be sure and get the right pattern and size for where you fish. I have caught 3 pound bass on 10 inch baits but its not that common. If the bass you target are say 7 pounds and under I would go with baits 5 or 6 inches or less. If you live in an area with huge bass then the sky is the limit. I would not hesitate to throw 14 inch trout baits in california, or 9 to 12 inch shiner imitations in florida, or 7 to 9 inch bluegill or tillapia baits in texas. Just pick out the style that matches the baitfish in your area and is right for the size of bass your targeting. Now if you want to throw the bigger baits for that once in a lifetime bass then be prepared to fish for a whole day and maybe get one bite. Hope this helps! p.s. I live in south mississippi and we have lots of bass in the 8 to 12 pound range and i throw 7 inch bluegill, 4 inch shad, and 9 inch shiner baits.

I use fifty-pound braid.I used to use thirty-pound Maxima mono, but switched to the fifty-pound Spiderwire Stealth braid to increase casting distance. I think when I start getting close to the knot, I’m going to switch back over to my thirty-pound mono. Maybe even twenty-five.

It is a good swim bait. It’s just like the Money minnow and several other swim baits that are out on the market right now. Choose a color that will closely match whatever baitfish you have in your geographic region. Blues and silvers are always good producers. Good fishing!

Biggest bass I’ve gotten is a twelve-pound female. She followed my twelve-inch, twelve-ounce Ironhead Rex Trout for about twenty or thirty yards while I was slowly wakin’ it. Then she blew up on it and all hell broke loose…

Well, of the handful of swimbaits that I have, only one has produced a thin twelve pound, twenty-three inch female largemouth. But she wanted it and nailed it but good. Not sure what it’s actually called, but I call it “Ironhead Rex”. It’s twelve inches long and weighs exactly twelve ounces. Here’s a pic of it so you know what I’m talking about…http://www.flickr.com/photos/grandmasterbasser/4530620830/That’s an eight inch SPRO BBZ-One next to it.I’ve had a couple strikes on my nine inch Tru-Tunsten Tru-Life Trout. And plenty of followers on my other swimbaits.

fish the swim bait from the top down and the squid from the bottom upif the swim bait’s tail isn’t moving back and forth giving the bait a lively action ( trick # 243 ) cut a vee shape out of the top of the tail, I use my teeth to bite the vee into them and spit the chunk out. The tail will really move back and forth. I like to work swim baits parallel to the rocks from the surface down and twitching the rod giving the bait as it drops a spastic twitch (it triggers strikes from true predators) close your drags down and use a stiff tip rod (heavy action) to pull the grumps out of their holes….. Also cast the swim bait into any boiling water especially any bird action on the surface and let it drop un restricted by the line….. with the squid I would drop to the bottom and work it the exact opposite by bringing it up off the bottom and dancing it every crank while moving my rod tip from left to right during one dance and right to left switching direction trying to make the squid look like it is rising to the surface while making little circles in the water actually more like a spiral staircase up.

With soft swim baits you can either use them without a weight to get them close to the surface (most swim baits, except hollow belly’s, have enough weight to keep themselves under the water) If you want to fish them deeper, you get a weighted swim bait hook. Usually about 5/O hook. You can get them in different weights for different depths. But it is always good to go DEEP with swim baits because that is where the BIG bass are that will eat these bigger baits…

Just got sent some that have not even come out on the market it, so ask me again later…LOLSo far I like the River 2 sea Bottom walker.Have used the Huddleston Deluxe swim baits and did not like them all that well, roll to easy.Basstrix are a good swim baits, but you have to get the hook in exactly right or they will roll.Calcutta’s Flash Foil Swim Shad looks promising.

You got a “cat” fever.
Catfish facts:1)They are color blind.2) Catfish don’t have a tongue.3) They don’t have a tongue but they do taste their foods. They taste with their whiskers.4) They like sweet stuff.5) They didn’t get their name because of their whiskers.6) Some catfish can croak and they can make sounds very similar to a baby crying; cats can make similar sounds too.7) A specie of catfish in China have the ability to survive drought. Unfortunately, they are an endangered specie now because Chinese see them as a delicacy.
Some species of catfish are very protective of their young.9) They could see very well in the dark.

Pretty close, and you could use calamari.

I have the same swimbaits, and was pleased to find out that Wal-mart has Lake Fork swimbait hooks from sizes 3/0 to 7/0. These are the best hooks I have EVER used with the Bass Magic baits. Bass Pro has the Bass Magics and on the same aisle they also have the Lake Fork hooks (usually on a small display next to the Bass Magic) but they’re 2 bucks cheaper at wal-mart! The Weight is fixed to the hook, it doesn’t slide. The only swimbait hooks I use, extra wide gap, they’re perfect!

Fish hooks are generally measured and sized by the gap between the hook and the shank. Almost all hooks come in various shank lengths and configurations, plus different diameter wire sizes. As you see by your purchase, a 3/0 should be almost the same no matter what brand. I have some “Eagle Claw” #6 hooks about fifty years old, and they are the same size as a number #6 hook of today.

i use a recipe of wheaties shredded wheat, peanut butter, and a little water and some maple syrup and mix it into a ball until it has a good texture to it. i kill them with that stuff.i have also heard that using cherry tomatoes work really well.
