Looking for a good Bass jig assortment?
As most of you probably know, assortments are usually junk, but surely there's a good name brand assortment somewhere out there. I've looked all over Bass Pro and Cabelas, but Bass Jig haven't had any luck. I actually ended up buying an assortment with a Bass Pro gift card that I received a while back, but it was a mistake. While they looked pretty good in the box, they were very poorly made, not to mention there weren't even rattles equipped on them. So, are there any good assortments that anyone knows of that can save me a buck. Buying jigs individually gets to be a bit too expensive for my liking.

It’s a bass fisherman’s dream to catch the bass schooling on shad. Some times you can fill up the ice chest and they will hit every time they come to the top and start striking the shad. But for some reason there are times when they will hit absolutely nothing you throw at them, but yet create a storm on the water as they attack the shad. I suspect that you had one of those days when they would hit nothing you threw at them. But just keep trying, because the next time they start schooling up and you are lucky enough to be there, they may hit any lure you throw at them. Here is some advice.Bass will sometimes school in the same area most of the summer. Check out the area they were in every time you go fishing.It will pay off for you good luck!

white or white/chartreuse spinnerbaits with tandem gold blades1/2-ounce rattletraps in chrome and firetiger patternssuspending jerkbaits – blue/chrome/ orange and fire-tiger patternsif there is a big mayfly hatch going on (usually in july, but can come early) use buzzbaits and jitterbugs.

I tried the Football heads and found they catch more weeds than the regular Round heads or Arkie-style heads. However, the Footballs excel in rocky, light weed, situations- like places you usually find Smallmouth. My “go to” jig in thick, weedy, cover is “The Fang” (without the plastic thing-a-ma-bob) – http://www.lake-link.com/store/item.cfm?ProductID=122The hook on the Fang is already at a 45 degree angle so you don’t really need the “plastic locker” thingy. I usually use this as a trailer on the Fang, (which works well with the stand-up hook design)- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90490____SearchResultsThe only problem with the Fang, (and many Jigs), is you have to replace the skirt with a70- 80 strand skirt- I pay a guy to make me skirts.

the 300. it will handle 6, 8 or even 10 nicely. an excellent choice.l use mitchells for most of my spin fishing. the majority are 30 years old or more.

ive seen this question over and over and my answer is still the same there is no “best” every lure and every jig has its places but the best bait you will find is night crawlers.but as far as jigs and lures all i can say is try a few different tube jigs and soft worms and curly tails and see what the fish in your area like,

This is copy and pasted from an earlier answer, but I think it’ll help a bit:There’s really two key parts of spring in my opinion. First, you simply have the fish move into shallower waters to feed heavily. After the warmer weather has set in for a while, fish really start to feed hard, as you probably know. I’ve found in this case that bait selection isn’t a majorly important thing, being that they really aren’t picky at all; they just want to eat. The more important thing is locating the fish. They’ll be holding around drop offs, points, and various cover in the water. Once you locate them, they will normally hit about anything that you throw at them; although, I do tend to stick to shad imitating lures. Crankbaits, rattle traps, jerkbaits spinnerbaits, and various suspending lures have always done very well for me.Second, the spawn will eventually set in. This is when you’re flippin’ and pitchin’ will come in handy, but again, fish aren’t all that picky this time of spring either. But, flippin’ a jig and pig combo will pull out some very nice fish. You can locate the beds, pitch a jig on top of them, and fish them very thoroughly. The plastics will normally do just as well, though. Basically, I don’t think either or is necessarily better during the spawn. As long as you’re using a setup that allows you to fish the bait slowly over the beds, you’ll normally do well. I would probably opt for a medium heavy 7’0 rod in this situation or a heavy action rod. If you think you’ll want to fish jigs consistently, I would go with a heavy action 7 footer. If you want a setup that will get you by for both jigs and plastics, go with 7’0 medium heavy.

Your gonna get a number of various answer’s to this question. Everyone has their favorites…Personally, I use 4/15 Power Pro Braid for smaller 5″-8″ Soft Plastic’s fishing, (on a 7′ 3″ MH Spinning outfit). If I’m swimming Jigs, I’ll go with a 14-15LB Mono with a 3FT leader of 15LB Fluorocarbon. If I’m Flippin’/Pitchin’ Jigs I’ll go with either 10/40 Power Pro Braid OR 10/40 Power Pro with a 3FT leader of 25LB Fluorocarbon. Deciding what line seems best for you is a personal subject you need to investigate on your own. A good idea is to try a variety of lines until you find one that you like…..Hope this helps ya?

Yes sir they will. Take it from me I live in Arkansas where the records are held for trout. I fish Little Red River, White river and Spring river here in this great state and I have caught trout on several bass lures, Fat a bombers. and diving crawdad, spoons of all kinds, small spinners and even some small plastic worms. Just remember trout are finicky eaters so try to keep your lures as small as you can. but I have even seen some guides use some 4 inch broke back minnows before. so your answer is yes definitely YES!!

Mono & braid are both good for fishing a jig. I don’t use braid because it has the visibility of a light bulb in a dark room. I would stick with an abrasion resistant mono. I would use 10-12 lb. for light cover jig fishing, and 14-20 lb. for the heavy cover (where the big boys stay). May i also say, i have had great luck with a “Bass Pro Shops Pro Enticer Football Jig” with a “Berkley 3″ or 4″ Chigger Craw” trailer. My all time favorite jig color is PB & J (Peanut Butter & Jelly.). For the jig, i like both the 1/2 & 1/4 oz. sizes. For the 1/2 oz. PB & J jig, i use a 4″ Berkley Chigger Craw in pumpkin green. For the 1/4 oz. PB & J jig, i use a 3″ Berkley Chigger Craw in pumpkin green.Happy fishing.
