There are 3 different types/styles of spinner baits1-inlinehttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/93/Inlinespinner.JPG2-open safety-pinhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/3c/Spinnerbait.JPG/800px-Spinnerbait.JPG3-closed(wire is twisted to form a loop) safety-pinhttp://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/spinnerbaits/chainreaction1.jpgThey all get tied on the same way. I prefer the Palomar Knot, as it maintains line integrity. Here is a link to a web page that has animation to show you how to tie it.http://www.animatedknots.com/palomar/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.comYou can also find out how to tie all kinds of fishing knots here.http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.comAlso here is a web page that will give you some ideas on how to fish/use the spinner bait.http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/spinners.htmlhttp://www.bassresource.com/beginner/spinnerbait_bass_fishing.htmlAt the bottom of the page you will find more helpful links for spinner baits.Good Luck, have fun, and hope this helps you out more in your adventure with spinner baits.

My dad taught me a knot I swear by. 1. Take your line and put it through the eye hole of your spinner bait with about three to four inches of line left to tie your knot.2. Loop the line through the eye hole again. Make sure the line is loose when you do this. By doing this you will make a circle.3. Pinch the circular line in order to keep it from tightening. 4. With the remaining line take your other hand and wrap the line about five or six times around the line you are not holding. It should wrap like a barbershop pole. 5. You should have about two to three inches of line left. Take that line and put it through the circle you are pinching. Notice that you are making a new hole that you insert your line in next.6. Put the remaining line through the new hole. 7. Lick the line to moisten it. If you don’t the heat created by friction will weaken the line.8. Take the remainder of your line and the main line and pull them both slowly/ simultaneously. Watch the barber pole section tighten like a noose line and your circle tighten on the eye hole. The eye hole should be wrapped two times. Enjoy and I hope this helped.

The blade design between the two is different. Buzzbait was a spinner intended for top water use. Spinners could be used through out the water column. Depending on the blade shape and size, spinners could also be fished fairly slow. Spinners are more versatile but buzzbaits are more exciting. It is always very fun to see fish attacking lures on the surface.

Sometimes a spinner like a rooster tail won’t spin because the shaft is bent. Check to make sure it is straight. Also you can try a quick jerk on the line while reeling and it will make it start spinning. Once it starts you can reel it slowly and it will continue to spin. The day-glow marshmallow baits you see in stores sometime work for trout. But usually right next to them will be Berkley Power Bait. It works really well, especially for trout.
