I had to buy several items just to realize that Walleye Tackle was the best choice for the price all along. The only negatives I’ve found were that there are better units available, but they are more expensive and the reviews I found on them were on the negative side. So here’s my final word. I 100% endorse Walleye Tackle and will even show you some places to get it even cheaper than retail.
A smart wife...?
A man calls home to his wife and says, "Honey I have been asked to go fishing at a big lake up in Canada with my boss and several of his friends. We'll be gone for a week. This is a good opportunity for me to get that promotion I've been wanting so would you please pack me enough clothes Walleye Tackle for a week and set out my rod and tackle box. We're leaving from the office and I will swing by the house to pick my things up.Oh! please pack my new blue silk pajamas."The wife thinks this sounds a little fishy but being a good wife she does exactly what her husband asked. The following weekend he comes home a little tired but otherwise looking good. The wife welcomes him home and asks if he caught many fish?He says, "Yes! Lots of Walleye, some Bluegill, and a few Pike. But why didn't you pack my new blue silk pajamas like I asked you to do?"The wife replies, "I did, they were in your tacklebox........."

Have you checked prices on ice-jigs latley? To fill a SMALL tackle-box full of Rapala-jigs (which are great for various species of fish) will cost you a small FORTUNE! They run about $4-$5 a piece! Not to mention the Northland jigs (these are very popular), Swedish Pimples, Etc.You could easily spend $100 and the box would be half-full! Not to mention the fact that MOST of the time ice-fishermen use live/dead bait! This means you only need a hook, split-shot & foam bobber,(foam bobbers are like $2.99).I still think you should get him a gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas. But if you MUST give an actual present here’s my picks:1. A “glow-light”, (This is a small flashlight-type device that “charges up” glow-in-the dark ice-jigs & lures) $5-$102. Any “Shimano” small tackle system.(Shimano makes nice tackle-box, storage “packs”.) $15-$30 3. A “Buzz Stik” ice fishing rod in “lite” or “Medium”. $12-$154. “Ice-armor” jacket & bibs. (You want to “impress”&”please” your man? Check to see if he has waterproof “Ice Armor” jacket & bibs! These will keep him totally WARM on the ice. This is a super nice gift but it ain’t cheap. $180-$280)5. Ice-cleats (put these on your shoes/boots so you don’t slip on the ice) $8-$126. Warm wool socks & a pair of nice waterproof Boots. $15-$150Here are some OTHER items you can purchase that will be just as important, (if not MORE important), than 14-20 ice-jigs that are smaller than a dime! I still think the gift certificate concept is more sound.Hope this helps ya? Good luck!

As you said the Erie Dearie with a night crawler or large shiner work very well, Strangely though Lake Erie is about the only place I have fished these with great success. I guess you have attached them to bottom bouncers, right?A pygmy lure is almost the same thing, and also works very well in Lake Erie also. Now I have caught walleye there on crankbaits also, one of our party on one trip I remember caught a large walleye on an orange colored rattle trap.Hope this helps!
