I have many of both. Kingsnakes are definitely more likely to bite than a ball python. However, kingsnakes have much better appetites than ball pythons, and their bites are probably a little less painful than a ball python bite. Both are great snakes. Kingsnakes can become very tame just like a ball python, so don’t let the biting scare you.

Actually Triton was a “lesser” greek God.He is a sea God and I’m sure that is the connection in Disney’s movie (which was actually an adaptation of a Hans Christian Anderson story. Hans is the one who first used Triton.)

Snakes (especially snakes that are oly occassionally handled) feel defensive in their own cage.I have found event the most aggressive snakes will handle extremely calm-like once you get the snake out of the cage……….i.e. not messing with it is in its home.It just sounds like the snake has been handled less and less and has become less tame as of consequence. Try this : take a metal clothe hanger and cut it so it stretches out in a long line of a wire…..now, bend it in on itself so it’s half the length it was……………….now, bend that into the shape of a candy cane(hook)………………now you can “scoop” the snake out of its cage and transfer into your hand easier.

I had a friend give me a couple packs of the Rage Tail Shads weeks ago. You DO break the tail section. You actually rig them texas style, but no weight, with the shad laying flat (sideways), and the tail up. The baits are topwaters, and are meant to be burned across the top like a buzzbait. The extra large tail really creates havoc on the water which can draw ferocious strikes.Make sure the shad is flat with the hook point on top like a topwater frog. This was also demonstrated on Strike Kings’ tv show “Pro Team Journal”. You may be able to catch it on Youtube!

I have several snakes and three kingsnakes. When any snake goes through a shed phase, called ecdysis, their old skin and eye caps separate from the new developing skin and eye caps. The new vascularity of the developing tissue causes the blue effect. At this time they are almost totally blind and because they feel in jepardy they will strike at anything that startles them. What I suggest is you get a tupperware type container/ waterbowl container with a snug snap on lid and cut a hole in the center just big enough for the snake to get through. Make sure the edges are smooth! The container and the hole should be large enough for the snake to get completely in and soak with some extra room. Fill the water container about 1/3 full because when the snake goes into it the water lever will rise and it might overflow if its too full. This method allows the snake a safe snug place to hide and soak and because the container has a lid it is less likely to spill when you take it out to clean it and change the water. When your snake is done shedding inspect him and make sure he has shed completely, especially both eye caps. As far as heat goes, make a hot basking spot of about 82-86 degrees F and make sure the heat is on only half the cage so the snake has a heat gradient and can choose where he wants to be.good luck!

They have a problem with everyone that isn’t a carbon copy of what they are.
