The way i fish with Rapala minnow lures, i don’t usually use bobbers or weights, it disrupts the action of the lure.. Rapala made the lure to run a certain way… anyway hope this helps

You have stumbled upon one of the secrets of bass fishing.Giving the fish what they want instead of what you think they want. The action, size, shape or color or a combination of all four produced fish. That’s why most all successful bass fishermen have such large tackle boxes. If one type of lure was the best to use, there would be no need to carry around a big box full of lures all the time. And in my area waters no one uses Rapala lures any more. It seems the Bandit crank bait is now king of the crankbaits, at least in my home waters. But each lake is different and on some waters the Rapala may still be the hottest crankbait on the water.

trolling speeds are .5-1.5 mph sometimes a little faster depending on how aggressive the fish are. As for trolling for large mouth bass I think you would have a better chance casting to structure and reeling the bait in and recasting. Fishing the same structure many times from different angles before moving on. Patience is key when it comes to bass fishing especially in high pressure waters.

i have used the extreme action slashbait for bass fishing and it is mildly effective. I basically reel it slow and work it very minimally since it has so much action on its own

You want to be able to cover the water column and you said the lake is murky so you don’t need to worry about leaders. Take a black magic marker and add some dashes on your line for the first 10 feet, you wi

My favorite oif all the Rapalas is the Shad Rap. In shad color, and orange and silverblack. I recommend sizes 7 , 8, 9. This gives you a range of depths they retrieve and troll. I am also fond of j-13 jointed Raps in any color. This used to be my night trolling set up. Few smaller fish hit them.

Bass: Myself I am a big fan of the pig n jig, swimbaits. and I love scumfrogs. For right now though I would stick with the jigs, maybe some finesse worms.Brim: I think you got it there. Carp: you can go to your local bread store, mine on tuesdays and you can get a trashbag of bread thats past its expiration for $2.00.

Well, the economy is disappearing quicker than hot-wings at a Hooters! So, along with the “new stocking” premise, Walmart’s probably trying to make some extra dough before the “American economy” becomes the “Chinese/American” economy. It’s unfortunate Charles that you, (and me & everyone else) are living in this era. Things are gonna get worse before they get better……and I hope we all won’t have to sell our fishing gear to buy bread and toilet paper OR worse!Although I don’t think much of their worms, Renegade does make a decent Yozuri Crystal Minnow copy. Charles- FYI: On EBay, you can purchase exact copy’s of Renegade worms in MANY different colors, by the POUND, for an average price of like 5-20 cents per worm and most can be special-ordered hand-poured with designer colors!! I buy stuff off EBay all the time; it has saved me tons of money over the years. You should go check it out….

So you like Yamamoto Senko’s? Want to save a TON of money and get as good a quality product as a Senko? Check this out- http://cgi.ebay.com/50-4-Senko-Type-Fishing-Lures-Watermelon-Red-Black_W0QQitemZ270462386252QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef8d0804c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14A pkg of Gary Y Senko’s retails for about $7 – $8 per 10. On EBay you can get 50 for $14-$15. $7 X 5= $35 You get twice the Senkos for half as much! AND they work JUST as good as a name-brand, GY Senko! I buy tons of lures and used tackle from EBay. If your careful about who you purchase from you can usually get AMAZING deals on fishing equipment.

Countdown minnows are still around. At least the same one that I have which I bought about 5 years ago. Walmart and Cabela’s sells them.http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat600382_TGP&id=0023374113526a&navCount=2&podId=0023374&parentId=cat600382&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=UJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true

This will give you a bit of an Idea about surf fishing http://www.finefishing.com/1saltfish/stripedbass/introdtosurffish.htmWell you won’t really be able to catch too many off the offshore species, but heres what you can do to maximize your chances of catching something. Depending on how many rods you have I would do this. When I go surf fishing off the beach I tend to bring at least 2 fishing rods if not 3. The reason being you can have live/dead bait in the water as well as work the area with a lure such as the Crystal Minnow. First thing if you don’t already have one I would pick up a sand spike or two. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0035911016798a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=Sand+spike&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=Sand+spike&noImage=0As for bait I would go with shrimp, crabs and/or the local baitfish. Live shrimp if you can get it is the universal saltwater bait. Almost anything will eat it. I would use a rig something like this http://www.stripersurf.com/highlowrig.htmlYou can see from the photo that there is a swivel at the top followed by a strong leader line (30 pounds or so) with two hooks and a pyramid sinker at the bottom. This is your general surf fishing rig. Most tackle shops will direct you to surf fishing rigs. With one rod baited and in the water you can concentrate on working the shoreline with your lures. Now if you have one rod you can certainly switch between these two methods. Or if you only want to use lures I can give you a few more.I also like the bait buster from DOA lureshttp://www.doalures.com/baitbuster.htmPlain ole spoons will get you barracuda along with other sorts. You can use Bucktail Jigs tipped with baithttp://www.bucktailjigs.net/bucktail-jigs/sf-7-befid-96424-keyword-bucktail_jigs-dnatrs-gulf_stream-nm-30-nd-30.htmlThere are a million and one possibilities. You can also talk to local tackle shops and get a helping hand or two from them.Any other questions feel free to email me.

I recommend a Super Duper silver and red lure, or even the red and gold they offer. There are also Rooster Tails that work really well, you will have to see what colors work in your area. Lastly, Panther Martin lures work well for these kinds of fish. Just so you know, all those listed above work well when you are trolling in a boat, but are also very effective from shore as long as there isnt any obsticles in the way that will snag your lure. rapalas are generally used for bass fishing, and I have never had a trout bite a Rapala.
