First, determine the size of the pike you are targeting. Normally, it is easier to catch many smaller pike than one big one. I would start off with casting flashy lures, do not be picky, almost any lure should do. Make sure it is big enough to attract the interest of the fish and crank fast and maybe a little erratic. Also, always use a leader. It will save you many line breaks.

Barracuda are much more agressive. They are not willing to attack humans almost nothing will attack something bigger than itself unless cornered, however they can mistakenly attack. For instance, a scuba diver can be holding fish, or something shiny, and the barracuda may attack it, and end up attacking the human by ‘accident’Pike are not in a situation or temperment to do this, unless cornered. All animals will choose to flee if possible, in an encounter with something bigger.

Personally, it’s the trophy walleye. I rarely go for pike and when I do catch them it’s usually on accident. There have been many trophy pike that have broken records but rarely is a walleye caught that large enough to be the biggest ever. I don’t know I guess it’s just my opinion. There’s nothing better than catching a 10+ pound walleye on 6-8 pound test and fighting it til’ the end. Good luck fishin’!

Always brine before smoking this helps cure the meat and get flavors down into the meat. THen watch your smoke time. The fish will cook quick and can easily get to smokey. Also go to you tube and watch some videos on how filet pike. They show you how to get those Y bones out. Personally I love to fry northern. Nothing better in a beer batter.

It is impossible for largemouth bass and northern pike to interbreed.Animals can not interbreed even if they belong to the same family. For example, bluegill, crappie and largemouth all belong to the same family and there are no hybrids between any of them. Human and gorilla belong to the same family and the differences are very obvious. Largemouth bass and northern pike don’t even belong to the same family.Only creatures with same genus can interbreed. (Cole said exactly that and he is absolutely correct) Horse and donkey can interbreed. Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass can interbreed. Largemouth bass and striped bass can not interbreed but white bass and striped bass can. Northern pike and muskie (muskellunge) can interbreed to produce tiger muskie. Northern pike and walleye can not interbreed because they are too different. Northern pike belong to a small genus and they don’t have many living close relatives they could interbreed with; almost all of their close relatives were fossils. It would still be fun and very interesting to see a computer generated pic of northern pike and largemouth bass hybrid though.
PS: The term “BIKE” was very funny. LOL

Night pike fishing can be tricky. They tend to lie still on the bottom. During the warmer months they will do this in about 6-8 feet of water. You will need something topwater to create noise to trigger them. You get an awesome outburst from them. Try using a hula popper or pop-r. I wouldnt recommend something like a jitterbug or buzzbait. They seem not to like something you use with a steady retrieve. You need a lure that makes a “bloop” or “Plop” noise.Good luck!edit: someone gave me a thumbs down, and i think its because i suggested topwater. Here is a website for you that will back my answer up. The third paragraph pretty much says the same thing in my answer.http://www.esox.co.uk/pikefishing2000/new_page_9.htm

There are pike cichlids: http://www.galaxynet.com/~corvid/ver/images/veri_pike_cichlid_crenicichla_alta.jpg although not exactly “miniature”, there are dwarf varieties of these.I have a feeling you might be seeing halfbeaks (~3 inches): http://www.myfishtank.net/images/fish/halfbeak2.jpg , http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/557.htm
