  1. Backwater Charlie Says:

The best Rapala lure that will catch both Walleye and Bass BOTH on a consistent basis is the Shad Rap. X-Raps and Jointed Rapala’s will occasionally catch Walleye but for a lot of Walleye and Bass both the Rapala Shad Rap hands down is the best lure. Here is a link to the Rapala Shad Rap – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_2851____SearchResultsYou‘re friends are right about the perch pattern. The perch pattern is a great color. Actually i seem to think that almost all of the color patterns by Rapala seem to be top of the line. I would get a Shad Rap in Yellow Perch and one in Bleeding Pearl. Both either in the 2-3/4″ or 3-1/8″ size. Good luck with your new lures!Happy fishing.

Unmam gave you some good advice. Bigger, bulkier, Jigs will produce bigger Bass. AND by using slightly larger lures you “kinda” weed-out the “dinks”. However, in regards to Smallmouth fishing, I would stick with 1/4 OZ Jigs that mimic Crawfish. Something like this- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74540____SearchResultsSmallmouth also LOVE Tubes- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90784____SearchResultsMy Son has the same issues you are having. However, it isn’t lure selection that cause him to rarely catch larger or better Bass. He is easily frustrated unless we are having constant action; he doesn’t pay attention to a variety of “fishing clues” that would help him catch bigger and more fish; his casting skills need vast improvement; after 20-30 minutes of no-one catching anything his attitude changes from “upbeat” and “optimistic” TO “Debbie Downer”. Attitude and “faith” in your abilities (as an angler) can “make or break” you during fishing. If this sounds similar to you, try “believing” in what you are casting. Bait can be quite productive if you know exactly where the good spots are to fish. However, you cover more water using lures. Here are some lure choices that will help you catch more fish:1. Senko-type Soft Plastic “stick-bait”- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_95625_100007000_100000000_100007000_100-7-0Good basic colors for Soft Plastic???- Black, Black/Blue, Watermelon, Red Shad, Pumpkinseed. 2. Berkley Powerbait Worm- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_38256____SearchResults Powerbait has built-in fish attractant that causes fish to hold on to the lure long enough for a fisherman to better feel a strike. However, there are sprayable fish attractant that will do the same for any Soft Plastic. 3. Here is the hook you need to rig the above Soft Plastic’s- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_45904____SearchResultsHere is a youtube on how to thread the worm on the hook; it’s called a Texas Rig- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9AlVfbFwdIHere is a Jig that may work- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58607____SearchResultsYou must choose & put a “trailer” on your Jig for it to work. Good trailers are double-tailed Grubs & Crawfish imitators.Hope this extra info helps ya? Good luck

Is that the black top/silver? It should work.

  6. Artie Says:

they are equally effective but usually when one is working the other one isn’t. Though trolling is a fine presentation you should vary the speed and the height of your rod tip. Not knowing what specie you are trolling for or what water you are on I can’t say using 6lb test will get the lure deeper but let me recommend the bomber long a’s for deep trolling and mix up the look of the immagined bait swimming behind you. raise and lower your rod jerk it forward then ease it back and speed it up all with your hands while trolling but! the jointed lures all seam to foul easier while trolling as well.

  7. rapture Says:

Heres a tip for you and everyone else who likes to fish for pike. Instead of using rapalas, use storms original thundersticks. Thundersticks are made of hard plastic instead of balsa wood. With the hard plastic, the pike will slam the lure and will have a harder time penetrating the lure with its teeth. Thus you get a much better hookset as the lure has an easier time sliding through its mouth. With the rapala, the balsa wood is soft and as im sure youve seen, the pikes teeth pretty easily penetrate the surface of the lure. You dont get as good of a hookset meaning possible lost fish. Try em…ive caught many pike bass and muskeys on them. Try twitching them on the surface for explosive topwater action as well. If youre going for pike keep the colors loud and gaughty. they love that.Try spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, topwater plugs like pop-Rs and zara spooks, crankbaits, spoons, mepps…the damn things are so aggressive theyll pretty much eat anything. Also try Powerpro superline. Best fishing line there is in my opinion. Really hard for em to bite you off. Also…buy good quality gear. It might cost you a little more but if youre gonna fish you dont want some cheap rig breaking or failing on you. I use quantom, abu garcia, or shimano reels and the rods i use are either falcon, g-loomis, or st. croix. Its worh the money to not have to worry about failing equipment.

  8. bass assassin Says:

jointed shad-raps have a great action when fished slow, which is perfect for winter, cause fish’s metabolism slows down, causing them to be sluggish. guilty as it may make us feel for cheating, when the going gets tough, the tough get live bait! then you dont have to be species-specific, cause everything eats shiners. and keep in mind- that scent you got wont stay on hard baits as long as it will soft plastics (rubber worms), so re-apply often.

  9. Emil Beli Says:

Take LC Minnow, silver, wait until it grabs (second or two) and hook it. Best place is near waterfall upstream

  10. goiserclause Says:

i have used the extreme action slashbait for bass fishing and it is mildly effective. I basically reel it slow and work it very minimally since it has so much action on its own
