As a former bait shop owner, in northeast Texas, I can tell you that it is not really difficult to start up. Depending how big you want the shop to be, you won’t need much space at all. One very important thing is, if you plan on selling LIVE bait(minnows, night crawlers, etc.), they MUST be kept cool or else they’ll die before you can get a dozen sold. I had a small (12×8) room that was air conditioned( window unit) just for that purpose. The fishing tackle I sold at my shop was purchased from a wholesale supplier…all well known name brands. I did not sell fishing licenses because there was a lot of state government red tape to break through, cost vs profit was not there, and it just didn’t make sense for me to sell them due to the fact that there was a state park just a mile away that sold them. Hmm…there’s so much more I want to tell you…could you please e-mail me and I can give you my phone number via e-mail. One thing for sure about having a bait and tackle shop….IT’S A LOT OF FUN!! I miss mine. =(

Mythbusters tried it & found it didn’t do anything for rust, but it did wonders in shining up the chrome on cars & bikes. If you want a cheap way to clean light rust from metal, mix salt & white vinegar. Normally you would rub it over the metal’s surface, but you’d probably hook yourself. I would just use a old toothbrush on the hook.

I live near the mouth of the MeKong and the water is too silty for anything but catfish or bull shark. Even our ocean is silty. lol We use oily fish for bait.I think you would do alright in clear water with some kind of a shiner or, if you are going to rent a boat, an umbrella troll rig like rubber shad (we call them “niners” where I’m from in the states). They look like a school of fish when you troll. They do have rod and reel fishing over here but I seldom see the locals surf casting when we go to the real beach up or down the coast.

Don’t get rid of them!!! Plano just put out a sealed latching box just for Gulp style products that protects from leaks and smells. I put a link to it from Plano and Tacklewarehouse. Gulp is good stuff I just used for the first time this year for bass but I hear it works even better for saltwater. It’s the Liqua Bait Locker System by Plano.

  7. Rick S Says:

A few plano boxes will work. If you want to go cheaper, zip-loc bags, disposable tupperware, old coffee cans, baby food jars, etc…
