Why does my bunny dig on me and nip me?
My bunny is very sweet and we are great friends. She displays very loving behavior toward me and we get along very well. She even licks my nose quite frequently. Why then, when I'm sitting on the floor with her, does she Nip Lot dig on me and nip at me? A lot of the time it seems like she is rearranging my clothes while they're on my body. Sometimes while shes pulling on my clothes she nips my flesh and it hurts! I can't tell if she is having fun doing this to me or if she is working toward some kind of goal...but she doesn't seem angry. She does seem to be working quite feverishly as she digs though. She is about 4 months old and this behavior started about a week or two ago..though it is getting more frequent. What on Earth is she doing?

Labs are good natured, gentle dogs. They are a “soft mouth” breed. They are retrievers and as such, have been bred to handle objects gently (as not to damage the bird). Not all puppies have to be mouthy. German Shepherds are. I too have a Shepherd that is 13 months old. Being mouthy is still an issue with him. He has had professional training and I work with him every day to try to correct this problem. He gets very excited and will immediately put his mouth on you.The older a puppy is when it leaves mom and litter mates the better off. They learn many things being with them and they have a crucial socializing period between 8-12 wks of age. Truthfully, at the shelter, she had mostly positive experiences with the people she interacted with. You are lucky to have such a great pup, don’t wonder too much, just enjoy her! Best of luck with your new girl and thanks for adopting!(spooky basset–love the picture!!!)

She’s just exhibiting normal puppy behavior. Your job is to teach her bite inhibition. You have to teach her what is and is not acceptable behavior, and in no book is biting/nipping ever acceptable behavior. Discourage it now by yelping “OW!” and getting up and leaving the room. When you come back, give her a stuffed toy to play with. Eventually, she’ll understand that biting and nipping stops play. Playing with toys, however, is okay! Once she gets all her shots, this would also be a good time to bring her to puppy socialization classes. It’ll give your pup a fantastic head-start and it will undoubtedly introduce her to good doggie manners as well as good dog-human manners.

They do have very fragile legs. It is probably not the best breed for a toddler. Look at spaniels, terriers (Bostons, etc), labs, shih tzu, bulldogs. Go on to petfinder.com and look for a dog that is in a rescue/foster home so they can tell you about the dogs’ personality.

If your bunny is doing that to you it is a real honour so don’t punish or reprimand her for it. She is trying to make herself comforatble on your lap because she loves you and is making herself as close as possible to you. She doesn’t know she is hurting you at all and she won’t know unless you tell her. That is when she nips you, say ‘OW!’ or something loud and she will realise it hurt and will probably be a lot more careful with her nest building.Sometimes rabbits nip you when they want your attention and if you let them know it hurts by crying out they will nip you a lot more gently next time. But in this case she doesn’t even know she is hurting you, she has just taken you as her soul-mate, loves to have you near her and is making herself at home on you. That’s one of the goals every person who loves rabits tries to reach, to have the rabbit accept them and love them. So congratulations, good luck and oh yes just what the second poster said, if you don’t want your clothes damaged or your skin hurt then put a towel on your lap-I do that and it works.

those are some of the symptoms i had, and am having. i have neck and shoulder pain, nausea, and im dizzy. but all symptoms are different, with one pregnancy, you could get dizzy, and with the next ,you may not. you may also not be pregnant though, if shoulder and neck pain is common to you, then maybe it just hurts again. and if dizziness is common to you, maybe your just dizzy again. so, if you haven’t taken a pregnancy test yet, then, go for it, what do you have to lose?
good luck! and congratulations if you are!!!!

It won’t harm her. The worst thing that could happen is that she may vomit. Probably she will just be on a “catnip high” for a while.

Your hands are sweaty. If the grips on your handlebars are leather the cat would like the smell of the sweat even more!! Cats love sweat for some reason. If it is a hot humid day here, my cat will starting licking me, especially under the armpits and behind my knees!!

My puppy would get a little nippy when she wanted to play; biting my hand and trying to wrestle, etc. I would get her toy every time she began and would play with it instead, now instead of biting me, she gets her toy and puts it in my hand. This was after she went to a short puppy class, which I recommend, or learning some ways to train your dog yourself. It isn’t too hard; just look up ways to train a dog on-line and you should get some helpful information. Good Luck!

She is trying to play with you in an inappropriate way. When she bites you let out a high pitched yelp, stand up and look at the sky for a minute. Ignore her. If she continues to try to bite you she is over excited and needs a timeout alone in a quiet exercise pen or puppy proofed room.
