For most bream as we call them, the smallest beetle spin that can be found is usually the bait of choice. If I don’t have the beetle spin then I’ll use a 1 1/2″ curly tail and thread it on the lightest jig head I can cast . Sometimes the water depth will dictate that I use a heavier jig. You didn’t ask but down here in Alabama where that 4 lb 12 oz bluegill came from I always count on three colors to catch them, yellow, white, and chartruse.

First here are a couple of pictures, the first is a jig head and the second is a tube.http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat410008&id=0023796118573a&navCount=2&podId=0023796&parentId=cat410008&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat410008&hasJS=truehttp://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat600389_TGP&id=0053839116826a&navCount=7&podId=0053839&parentId=cat600389&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=8IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat600389&hasJS=trueA jig head is nothing more than a hook with a weighted head on it. You simply “slide” your bait /lure onto the hook and push up to the head. There are a number of ways to fish a jig, but the most simple is cast and retrieve. That’s when you just “throw” it out there and reel it in. A tube is a soft plastic bait that can be used to catch a number of fish depending on the size of it. They can be rigged several ways, one of which is a Texas Rig. Tubes can be flipped or pitched, dragged across the bottom, or simply cast one out and reel in. I have been using tubes with a 1/4 oz. jighead inside of it( a certain jighead that’s made for tubes) with much success lately.(pitching docks!) Hope I helped some. Good luck!

I really like using the road-runner feather baits. Went out this last march chucking green, red, and white. Both my friend and i had limits each of sandies and crappie (25/person/species/day) in under 1 1/2 hrs. Granted that was a sensational day, but if there are fish to be caught, those road-runners usually find them. the road-runner jig heads with grub bodies work well too.

I tried the Football heads and found they catch more weeds than the regular Round heads or Arkie-style heads. However, the Footballs excel in rocky, light weed, situations- like places you usually find Smallmouth. My “go to” jig in thick, weedy, cover is “The Fang” (without the plastic thing-a-ma-bob) – http://www.lake-link.com/store/item.cfm?ProductID=122The hook on the Fang is already at a 45 degree angle so you don’t really need the “plastic locker” thingy. I usually use this as a trailer on the Fang, (which works well with the stand-up hook design)- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90490____SearchResultsThe only problem with the Fang, (and many Jigs), is you have to replace the skirt with a70- 80 strand skirt- I pay a guy to make me skirts.

What you or I think of them doesn’t matter. It is what the fish thinks about them. I have seen the ads. As well as ads for every other type of jig, lure, spinner and bizz baits. I have had success with all and been skunked using each type. I fish one type for a while. If no success I switch. All depends on the conditions and what the fish want to bite on that day. I have a couple but would not have it be the only bait in my tackle box. Giving my personal preference, I like plastic worms.

trim off the weed guards and use them with small root beer colored curly tail grubs for surf perch and corbina.or you can use them with a live minnow or leech for walleye and smallmouth.also good for ice fishing.

okay, you’re seeing 2-7 pound Snapper from a bridge off Ramrod Key. Bet ya don’t know why it’s called Ramrod key?! Don’t think messed up, there’s history behind the name. Anyways, You’re spotting Snapper, probably Mangrove Snapper ( a.k.a Gray Snapper) and if they’re in the 2-7 pound range ( I don’t know but 7 pounds seems a bit exaggerated but hey, we came dream.) they’re not stupid Snapper. These fish have been around the block. Lures won’t work on the big dogs unless their totally desperate. Why? This tourist hot spot has thrown everything from beanie weenies to the ultimate double digit priced lures at ‘em! Your best chance is to lower your line diameter, I stress fluorocarbon like none other here within a 3 foot range as leader line, a split shot well above and a single short shank live bait hook with either a jumbo shrimp, 50 cent sized mojarra or like sized pinfish. You’ll have to work through the little ones to get to the big ones but that’s fishing. ~good luck catchin’

I use epoxy paints and I use a piece of re-bar across the garbage can top and hang the lead heads hooking the re-bar. By spraying in a trash can it keeps all the over spray inside the trash can it also allows me to pick up the rebar and come at the lead heads from all angles. I always paint the backs of the weights with bright red so when you put the swim bait on the lead head the backs of the balls stick out on the sides a little and it looks like flared gills. I will try to match color combinations in the spray cans lids and brush it on but for the most part I spray straight epoxy (appliance) paints. Then coat them with clear because I hit a dock or piling here and there.

This got my attention because normally I would just hand pour…I’m old fashioned what can I say? I did some searching around just out of curiosity and did find something that matched your description. Here’s the link: http://www.tekcast.com/Casting-Machines/c9/index.htmlNot sure if that’s what you’re needing but it does use an air compressor and injects to make molds. ~good luck catchin.’

River Smallmouth fishing is something I always would like to do.I would use no lighter than 1/8-ounce but no heavier than 3/8-ounce. I think 1/4-ounce is a good choice for all-around fishing.Oh and just to add on, I have had tremendously good luck on LARGEMOUTH with a 2″ BPS Spring Grub (Brownish looking with black flakes) rigged on a 1/4-ounce Jig Head. I’m sure the same would work very good on Smallmouth too.The lure is ONLY 2″ but is a very fat bait.
