During summer, bass hold in woody snags at the edge of islands and side channels of larger rivers, where they feed on shad that swim by in the current. To lure them out, cast a jig upstream and toward the bank, then work it back through the logs and trees with a swimming retrieve. Experiment with a steady retrieve much like a spinnerbait or a hopping action that sometimes triggers extra bites.

try using brighter colors to attract fish in clear waters. Try chartreuse, pearl white, green, pink, etc..

I think a good lure in your situation would be a rooster tail. A rooster tail is a small in-line spinner that I use for bluegill but is also VERY good for trout/bass. Go to your local Wal Mart and pick up some 1/8 rooster tails and go catch some fish!

This would be the kind of lake that I would love to fish. I love the weeds and cover. My choice of lures would be the senko type lures fished weightless and rigged Texas style with a #3 hook.I would also try a Zoom trick worm and A stanley ribbit frog in red pearl color. If you have some cloud cover a buzz bait would work great. Another bait that I have just discovered is the Strike King Rage Tail Shad. A plastic lure that is fished like a buzz bait. The bass can’t stand it. But if you use it, follow this advice- allow the fish time before setting the hook – count to 7 and then set it- this is what works the best for me when I fish the frog also. Good luck!

Have you tried throwing out any speck jigs yet? My comrades have been catching specks on double rigged speck jigs near Freeport. Chartreuse green and yellow is what they are hitting on in that area. There are lots of different colors to choose from depending on your water clarity in your area. Any bait shop or Walmart along that Tx coast carries speck jigs. I use to catch two specks at a time on those jigs when casting into a school of em. Follow the seagulls feeding on the water and cast out near em, can”t miss catching trout this way. Big saltwater spoons can also catch you some reds as well as specks this time of year. Work the spoon slowly back, bumping the bottom as your retrieving back in. Flounder will hit a slow spoon as well. The tide and waves gives the spoon great action without a fast retrieve. Unless your near an oyster reef most of the bottom along the South Tx. coast(surf) is flat and sandy. When your fishing the bays you have to worry more about the oyster reefs and hang ups. My personal favorite in the surf, between the second and third sandbars, is to use a popping cork with a live shrimp, small mullet, small croaker, or mud minnow. First choice being shrimp. If casting out past the third sandbar, then I fish the bottom with shrimp, small or cut mullet, squid, croaker, or cut up crevelle jack when I’m going for black tip. First choice at this spot is shrimp or small mullet. Tight Lines Feel free to email me for more info 40yr exp

This is a pretty interesting question as there are not to many people around anymore that actually do make their own lures, although the practice used to be pretty common as the commercial lure selection was not nearly as it is today. I know a few guys on Cape Cod that still do it and they always come out on top, because once you get the basic skills down on carving, and a little painting, you can match virtually any bait that runs native through your area. It’s obviously way to much to describe here, as it is more of a trade then a lesson, but it’s absolutely an obtainable skill that can be learned by anyone with extremely gratifying rewards. Here is a great book to get the basics, this book will put a dozen or so homemade, handcarved, native bait plugs in your box, and you will be truly proud of them.PS. I still have wooden plugs that were handcarved by my great great grandfather, and not only are they high end antiques, they are, and always will be, part of my family.

Guys, I think the point of the question is not whether such a lure exists, nor does the question concern gimmicks like the Banjo Minnow and other tackle that is designed more to attract novice anglers than actual aquatic lifeforms. The essence of the question is: GIVEN that a 100 percent effective lure exists (forget about the nature of it and the impossibility of it) would you buy one? In other words, would you pay money to remove the guesswork, patience, tactics, and mystery from fishing?Actually, I guess the question assumes that you WOULD pay something for it, that you would want one, and the question is how MUCH would you pay. I suppose most “real” anglers would claim that they would not want one, would not want to remove that question mark from each day’s fishing. And I would count myself, too — I don’t want to take away the learning aspect of fishing, the patience, the mystique. But it’s easy to say that, because it doesn’t exist and I’ll never have to face the question in reality.EDIT.All right, what about this? What if the lure was proven (no gimmick, no wild claims) to increase your catch by, say, 20 percent? The lure itself (no technique involved) caught 20 percent more fish, all other things equal. In other words, what if it erased 20 percent of the mystery? What would you pay NOW?B — Yeah, again, I think most real anglers are with you, but don’t forget, the guys fishing on your left and on your right WOULD buy the 100-percenter, and they would catch more fish than you (of course, this starts to touch on the sheer impossibility of the premise — such a lure would irreversibly change the face of sport fishing, assuming that it would be legal at all).Chimp — I think novice anglers would shell out ten times that amount for a lure that always caught fish. $200 for a lure that catches fish every time you use it — guys would not be able to get their wallets out fast enough.

vibrates the water a bit, makes it seem like a fish in peril. More movement. You will only want to use it when you see a lot of top water action though, if the water is still, good luck.

bass lure – just feed the hook through the hole in the skirt so that the skirt trails behind. some people will put a dab of super glue on to hold the skirt in place.Ocean big game lure – same as bassSmall fresh water lures – this is usually done with some type of hackle or marabu feather. if you watch the vid below it will give you an idea on how to get started. the first few steps in tieing a flie are the same no matter what type or what size of flie your trying to tie. these are only the basics so lets not get past he original question about skirts. have fun doing it and enjoy the results. ~~~*<>{www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipjp1_dJ0MM

Gulp! tends to be a little stronger scented so it gets a few more bites, but it dries out pretty fast.Powerbait will get strikes too, thought maybe not quite as many as Gulp, but it lasts a LOT longer.I tend to steer toward powerbait unless I see something in the gulp line that I really like and powerbait doesn’t have the same lure.I hope this answered your question. Tight lines!!

The middle of the day or even the heat of the summer does not necessarily mean the fish are in the middle of the lake. They are also around the base of the cypress trees, usually on the shady side, and are off the points in a little deeper water then earlier in the day . Lilly pads are also good middle of the day spots to fish. Sometimes in the middle of the day you can find schools of bass feeding on threadfin shad on the surface of the water. You lure choice would be determined where you are fishing at. For instance the point would be a good crankbait spot, or a weighted lizard or worm. The cypress trees would produce fish using a weighted lizard or worm, or crankbait, or spinner bait. The schooling bass could be caught on buzz baits, crankbaits or the plastics. Even top water will produce fish when a school is found. If one type of structure or area fails to produce fish, go to the next area and try it out. There are some days when the middle of the day has produced my best catches.Just go, have fun, and good luck!

its called the the Bite Light, and is available at http://www.ngcsports.com/gear or call 1-800-873-4415 and ask for the Bite Light (Item # kbl). I’m pretty sure this is the only company in the states that sell it.just to let you know, three fishermen in mexico caught 650 large mouth bass in 24 hours with it.

I follow both BASS and FLW very close and the only thing not allowed would be live bait, you are allowed to use a multiple hook rigs but only one rod at a time. You cant have a rod with a worm dragging behind your boat while casting a crank bait at the same time. The “banned by tournaments” is to catch fisherman even though the lure may catch fish. If a lure that good actually existed the bass fishing world would be nuts over it and pros would speak out against the lure or for it. Plus if you think about it a lure like that would hurt the tackle industry as a whole. If we all had 1 “magic” lure we would not have tackle bags and boxes full of lures. I have seen that ad in magazines and it looks like a standard swim-bait.

Topwater lures have some good results. Diving crank plugs also work well. Topwater lures and rubber baits work best in shallow water in morning and evening, while divers and spinners work best in afternoon. So, you may have the right stuff, but bad presentation and time of use can prevent you from getting results. Also, old rubber worms smell artificial and unappealing, so make sure your rubber baits have scent on them. So my favorite is whatever works that day, but I really like topwater lures and rubber baits, so my best fishing is in the morning.Sorry, no pics, but anyone in the store should know what you are talking about. I would recommend actually shopping in a sporting goods store, because their employees should know what they are talking about (Beware, they have proven this theory incorrect before).Good luck!
