Ok, let us first start with a review of Tackle Lure:

I was impressed with Tackle Lure plain and simple. When I placed my order, I had in in my hands within 3 days and the price was great. The key is looking for a seller with over a 100 feedback rating on Ebay. I’ve even included the top Ebay listings to Tackle Lure in this review to make it even easier on you.

Trout record. What would be your lure choice and what would you look for in a body of water.?
If you were going to go for a record trout what would be in your tackle Tackle Lure box and what kind of features would you look for in a body of water.I will be fishing stocked ponds and lakes in Kansas. There are only two or three lakes that will suport trout year round so I know that those will be my best bet. The state record is only 9.33 lbs as aposed to New Mexico my home of 31lbs and change.

It takes a load of money to start up a business, especially something like this. The saying, “It takes money to make money” is very true in a situation like this. You’re right, you would lose money if you didn’t mark the price up. People buy products in bulk and mark the price up to where they make a few bucks off of it. You obviously can’t buy a product, pay for shipping, and sell it at the same price you paid for it. I don’t know much of anything about starting a business but common sense tells me now simply isn’t the time to attempt this. Even if you have several thousand dollars saved up for a business, a lot of your consumers don’t. The economy is in bad shape now and will probably get worse before any improvements happen. I’ve seen 4 new tackle stores come up in my hometown in the last 4 or so years. Long story short, only 1 still remains. Yes, online is probably a bit different but there are already so many online tackle sites that it’d be nearly impossible to get the business up and going in my opinion.

As you said the Erie Dearie with a night crawler or large shiner work very well, Strangely though Lake Erie is about the only place I have fished these with great success. I guess you have attached them to bottom bouncers, right?A pygmy lure is almost the same thing, and also works very well in Lake Erie also. Now I have caught walleye there on crankbaits also, one of our party on one trip I remember caught a large walleye on an orange colored rattle trap.Hope this helps!

Most model/hobby shops have balsa wood in pieces, strips, that you can cut to fit most small boxes. They will probably be helpful on how to do what you want, notch and glue etc. if you tell them what you’re trying to do.Give it a shot.

  4. Ole Fisherman Says:

Here’s some basic advice for buying lures:1. Try to “cover the water column”. Meaning?? Break the water up into three different areas- The Bottom, The Middle, The Top. This helps simplify the type of lures you need to concentrate on buying. Although some lures do cross-over from category to category, once you break them down into these 3 category’s it makes it a little less overwhelming. A well-stocked Bass fishermans tackle box should have representations of each category. 1. The Bottom:A . Weedless Jigs- W-Jigs are actually one of the best big Bass lures of all time. More expensive jigs usually have better hooks, (and heads). However, when your beginning to fill your tackle box for the first time AND your new to fishing, you tend to lose them. And at $3-$4 a pop it can get expensive. One of the “best bang for your buck” Jigs is the Strike King Bitsy series. Their hooks are strong and generally very sharp- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_28418____SearchResultsB. Weighted Soft Plastics- This category incorporates an important part of fishing! More people catch more fish on a simple Texas, Wacky, Carolina rigged soft plastic than ANY other lure. Having the correct “terminal tackle” for this type of fishing is VERY important. Gamakatsu, Daiichi and Owner hooks are the standard for most Bass fishermen. (Of course, if you’ve got money to “burn” you can purchase the new Trokar hooks!) Why are these hooks so expensive? And WHY should you spend all that money on Gamakatsu/Owner/Daiichi hooks when you can get 2-3 times more Eagle Claw hooks cheaper? Basically, they are sharper and EVERY hook is as sharp as the first. A huge box of Eagle Claw hooks will generally have 5-6 that are “dull”; and dull hooks equal lost fish- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_53661_100010002_100000000_100010000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_SEARCH – Screw-in Worm Weight- These are nice when Texas Rigging or Flipping for Bass- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90022____SearchResults- Berkley Soft Plastic’s- Berkley makes a fine product! I consider them the “gold standard” of Soft Plastics- A simple 7″ Berkley Powerworm will catch you more Bass than any other lure- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_38256_100007001_100000000_100007000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_SEARCH2. The Middle Water column:A. Crankbaits are another important part of your arsenal. Choosing, (and advising you on) the right one can be difficult. Basically, you would need “reaction colored” Cranks and “realistic colored” Cranks. Brightly colored Cranks are useful when covering water quickly; more realistic colored Cranks are useful when fishing Super-clear water and need to match the natural forage. Depth and “action” is another factor. However, unless you plan on doing some Pro-grade Cranking you should probably stick with Crankbaits that don’t dive beyond 10-12Ft, (and in most cases no deeper than 6FT). Here are 2 Cranks I think everyone should have in their box:- Cotton Cordell, Spot- These are inexpensive and work as well as ANY other Lipless Crank. (I replace the hooks with a Gamakatsu WG Treble hook- then this Crank is phenomenal!!!)- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44610____SearchResults- Rapala, Husky Jerk HJ10 & HJ8- These are the gold standard suspending lure. Very popular and very productive- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_2827____SearchResults Spinnerbaits should def be in your T-Box. I use to purchase more expensive, high-end Spinners but have found that Bass don’t know the difference between a $1.95 S-bait and a $4.99 S-bait! (lol) Yes, the more expensive “Titanium/Super Stainless” Spinners last longer, but I can get 2-3 Spinners for the price of 1 of those. If I had to suggest an expensive Spinnerbait it would be a Chatterbait style – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10211227_100006000_100000000_100006000_100-6-0 3. The Top water column:A. Topwater lures come in many varietys and styles, (Poppers, Buzzbaits, Prop-baits, “Walk the dog”, Etc). To begin with, you don’t need one of each style. If you can afford it- Go for it! But don’t be bummed-out if you can’t have one of each. Here are a few that I recommend:- Spro Frog- AWESOME lure! Won’t get hung in thick slop/vegetation, (which means you can fish it almost anywhere!) However, It’s important to fish this with Braided line- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_73278____SearchResults- Heddon, Spook Jr- Another gold standard. These are inexpensive, and (in my opinion) are the best “Walk the Dog” type lure you can purchase, (once again I typically change the hooks to Gamakatsu WG Trebles)- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_37009____SearchResults

Don’t get rid of them!!! Plano just put out a sealed latching box just for Gulp style products that protects from leaks and smells. I put a link to it from Plano and Tacklewarehouse. Gulp is good stuff I just used for the first time this year for bass but I hear it works even better for saltwater. It’s the Liqua Bait Locker System by Plano.

  8. Backwater Charlie Says:

For bass, plastic worms, and spinnerbaits are my two choices no matter what. They seem to work every time. And they’re cheap. Most spinnerbaits are in the $1-$5 dollar range, with a bag of plastic worms costing less than $4. Also, there are other soft plastics such as frogs, lizards, crayfish, etc. that work great. Now for bass live-baits, minnows, crayfish and nightcrawlers are hard to beat. For trout, in-line spinners such as rooster tails, mepp’s, and panther martin’s are great … and cheap! Every trout angler has in-line spinners. And for bait, nightcrawlers or corn is the best. Now for the ole’ catfish … About that, they don’t take lures. Most of the time, anyways. But, for bait, nightcrawlers, crayfish or chicken liver are great for catfish. And for the line, well it takes different lines for different species. For catfish, 14 lb. Stren is great, i have it on a reel of mine. And for bass, if you have a baitcaster, Stren is also good in the 14 lb. version. But, if you have a spinning reel you should get some 10-12 lb. test, preferably monofilament. And for trout, 6-8 lb. mono is good for all-purpose.Anytime you can fish, is a good time to fish!!!If you need anymore Q’s answered, just drop by with an e-mail with you’re Q’s, and I’ll be glad to help.Hope i helped ya out.

Montana is well known as a Trout fishing hot spot. You will definitely want to include (or purchase) some Fly’s and possibly an inexpensive Fly outfit. The only place I know where you can buy bulk fishing items in a tackle box “ready to go” is either at a garage sale/auction, craigslist, or EBay. The problem? You will very rarely find a “kit” that perfectly fits exactly where & what you want to fish for. Your best bet is to put together a tackle box yourself. Here’s a basic list of equipment for Montana:1. Here’s a small kit that will get you started but you will need to add extra weights, bobbers, a knife, and some basic lures- http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20176-cat601341&id=0063821320868a&navCount=12&podId=0063821&parentId=cat601341&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=trueExtra Weights- http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0019630111709a&navCount=15&podId=0019630&parentId=cat20295&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20176-cat20295&catalogCode=QX&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20295&hasJS=trueExtra Floats- http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?id=0000023&navCount=18&parentId=cat20289&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20176-cat20289&parentType=index&indexId=cat20289&rid=Lures for Montana??- 1.
