baits-lures Bass Pike Important Fact

It is difficult to provide accurate Bass Pike information, but we have gone through the rigor of putting together as much Bass Pike related information as possible.

What is best reel for bass/pike fishing in Canada?
I'm going to canada to go fishing for the first time this summer. I'm Bass Pike exctited but I've never really gone fishing for anything over 6lbs. What are some reels that I should look at and what are some of the mechanical characteristics that I should be looking for in the reel to handle a fish that is 7 to 15lbs.

  1. BOBBER Says:

Walleye for sure. In northern minnesota every pothole and creek as well as most every lake has northern pike that jump on your hook just to look at it it seemes. Especially the smaller ones. Walleye are fairly common but not as easy to catch.

  2. bass pro20198 Says:

i have a different wieght and brand on every pole i have a 10-12lb. line for walleye stern. for pike i use a 18in steel leader and 15lb. spirderwire. and for bass a 8-10lb. eagle claw.hope you start you use what i use and then, you will catch the big one.

  3. sexy bass fisherman Says:

for bass try a weighted senko type bait texas rigged. Use it it 10+ feet of water. Let it sink to the bottom and let it stay there for a minute or two. I garentee the bass will watch it senko and keep an eye on it while it lays on the ground. Shake the rod tip to give the bait some movement. Make sure you dont let the senko fall on slack line like you usually would. after you shake the rod tip a few times lift the rod tip and you will raise a red flag to a bass. I used this strategy for the bass tourney i did early this year after a cold front went through. I was catching them left and right and won the tourney. I also caught a few 22-25 inch pikes.the key to fish any bass lure under this condition is to fish it SLOWLYfor pike, try a small bluegill, crappie, perch or any other small fish and a big hook and through it out on a large bobber. The bobber should be about 4-5 feet away from the bait. Throw it out and let in sit. when the bobber goes all the way under you got a pike. Set the hook. It may take awhile to catch pike this way but it’ll work.good questionhope i helpedgood luck!

  4. pony Says:

Ive fished that lake also I was born and raised near flint.Ive never fished that lake at night but used to fish houghton lake at night quite often for pike and always had good luck with a large double blade spinner bait.Keep your retrieve just fast enough to keep the bait churning the surface.

  5. cory t Says:

Gunner, top waters are a good selection. I’ve never pike fished but most of the lures are just bigger versions of bass lures. Buy some 1/2 ounce rattle traps and the bigger number 4 or 5 Mepps In-line spinners. These are easy lures to use, just chunk and reel. They will run below the surface. Depending on fish activity, depends on where you will find the bite. In morning and evening would be the best times to use your top waters. As the day progresses, that is the time to use crankbaits, in-line spinners, and spinnerbaits. I would recommend using bass jigs also. These are a little harder to fish unless you’ve logged some time on the water. I use them, small ones and I underhand pitch them into brush along the shorline in shallow water. Rapala makes a jointed minnow that is a good plug too. Bass like plastic baits also, but that could be intimidating unless you already knew how to rigg them. And there is not enough space here to do so properly. I’m just trying to get some baits in your hand that work with little or no knowledge. However, if one was so inclined to try anyway, the Berkley Power Worm is a bass favorite. Texas rigged with a worm weight and correct hook is favorable confidence bait for myself. In the end, when you are fishing in unknown waters with limited knowledge, you want cover the entire water column, from top to bottom. This is how to problem shoot where they are. Ask yourself questions. Are they near brush? What depth was that? Was that a slow or fast retrieve? When you catch a fish, think what you did and imitate it everytime. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  6. crosstwntraffic Says:

Go with braid. Best of both worlds. It doesn’t tangle as easy on a baitcaster as mono and it’s much stronger and more abrasion resistent. I prefer Power Pro 30 lb. braid for multi-species angling. Casts great and can handle toothy critters.

  7. Nathan S Says:

They are good lures for bass in both winter and summer when they are deep or suspending. I also like to throw a spoon if the bass are chasing bait fish to the surface in a school allowing the spoon to fall through the school of bait. My favorite spoon is a Bass Pro Shops blue back Minnow Spoon. It looks like a minnow and has good flash.

  8. rhythmatist Says:

Pike and bass flies tend to be bigger and heavier than trout flies, so you may need a different rod, Like 8wt or 9wt. There are so many flies designed for this type of fly fishing that we could be here a while. Try entering fly fishing or fly tieing in your search engine and go from there. I like hair bugs and poppers for bass surface fishing. They work for pike too but pike teeth tear them up. Pencil poppers made with foam last longer for pike. For wet flies streamers and Clouser minnows, big wooly bugs etc. for bass. For pike I like streamer type flies made of rabbit fur strips. I’m sure Dick’s would have some of this stuff. Fly fishing for pike takes sturdier tackle and leaders than for bass.

  9. Ole Fisherman Says:

If a Pike is big enough it will attack anything it wants! Last summer my kids (and their cousins) were swimming in a lake and were attacked by a POed Pike. He was only 34″ or so, (I later caught him on a Rapala suspending Husky Jerk Minnow.) Having fished for “Cuda on the Flats of the Keys and elsewhere I understand why they call Pike the “cuda of the North”. I’m not sure if a 10LB Pike would “eat” a 4LB Bass but it would certainly attack one!(Thumbs to Donald)

  10. hopstarr Says:

I’ve caught plenty of pike/pickerel/bass using sunfish and perch for bait…but they need to be small one and alive…bass and pike aren’t big on cut bait (cut up pieces of fish) like salt water fish are…

  11. Backwater Charlie Says:

I don’t do any Pike fishing but I see that the most popular lure seems to be the red & white Dare-Devil!For bass it’s the 6″ plastic worm.

  12. cher2560 Says:

My husband does a lot of fishing and anything he has caught like that he throws back. I wouldn’t eat anything like that no matter what anyone says.

  13. dj Says:

Use 12lb. braided spiderwire with either a spinnerbait in shallow water or a deep diving rapala crankbait in deeper water…

  14. machman4 Says:

Topwater lures have some good results. Diving crank plugs also work well. Topwater lures and rubber baits work best in shallow water in morning and evening, while divers and spinners work best in afternoon. So, you may have the right stuff, but bad presentation and time of use can prevent you from getting results. Also, old rubber worms smell artificial and unappealing, so make sure your rubber baits have scent on them. So my favorite is whatever works that day, but I really like topwater lures and rubber baits, so my best fishing is in the morning.Sorry, no pics, but anyone in the store should know what you are talking about. I would recommend actually shopping in a sporting goods store, because their employees should know what they are talking about (Beware, they have proven this theory incorrect before).Good luck!

  15. Injun Says:

All these fish can be caught 24 hours per day depending how good the feed is for any given area. But if I was going to pick times of the day I would choose for someone just before daybreak to 10am for bass and pike then again 2 hours til dark and 2 hou rs after dark. And for cats 2 hours before dark til midnight! You will find fish feed at different times in any body of water so that means that bass may feed heavy in morning hours on one side of a lake than bass at other places in the same lake.I find that I love to fish the heat of the day in heavy cover for big bass with topwater baits or jig n pigs! But that same area during the mornings and evenings the fish are more to the edges of the same cover. For pike they tend to be slow feeders in the warmer water lakes so a great time to fish them is low light times.I start catfishing with great sucsess 2 hours before dark when they start to move to feed spots or in deeper waters where they will sometimes suspend to feed off of points, breaks or deep weed esdges.
